I've said all off-season that the Lakers may be best served by just playing out the season with what they have and looking to re-do the roster in the off-season with whatever cap space they have.

Some say they will have enough to go after a max player, some say they won't. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle. It looks like they will have around $35 - $40ish million. All of you wannabe mathematicians and junior capologists can spare me your "calculations" unless you can show you're a GM. If you can show that you're a GM, I expect comped tickets. lol

That range isn't going to land them a 3rd max level guy unless it's Kyrie who likely can't get a max deal from anyone. Even if they had cap space to add a 3rd max level guy, that may not be the best way to go. I'd rather they break it up for depth due to AD's injury history and Lebron's age.

What they could get for that would be a couple of shooters to add to Ham's defensive schemes. A couple of quality shooters being provided open looks because of Lebron and AD, combined with good defense is exactly what won them the title in the bubble.

Unless they are getting someone they would target in FA, imo, they shouldn't trade for anyone who won't be a FA after this season.
Its called math.

It isn't hard.

The Lakers sites even said you don't have that much.

Jr Capologists that aren't Gm's?

Most of the people on this thread could put together a better roster than Rob did.

So, being a GM isn't quite the high bar you make it out to be.

A!so, I'm the only one here talking about it. Be a man and quote me.

Being passive aggressive is a bad look and not your usual style.

I don't give a shit if anyone here disagrees with me.

Its the internet.

The problem is their depth. The way the roster is constructed doesn't work. You're built around one aging superstar and an often injured AD. Even adding a 3rd star to that would require pretty fortunate luck.

They need to deal AD imo. But they won't.

That's why, even if they somehow end up having enough for a 3rd max level guy, I would prefer they break it up and add 2 or 3 high quality role players.

Just for the sake of argument, let's say they somehow had Westbrooks $47 million available. I would rather see them add 2 or 3 players who fill specific needs, than go after 1 max level guy. Especially since, if memory serves, there won't be any true max level guys available anyway.

Yes, junior capologists. Folks here skew everything Lakers related as negatively as possible, even attributing bullshit from other sites to posters here or trying to paint all Lakers fans here with one brush.

And lol @be a man. You're not the only one here talking about it and if my comment was directed solely at you, I would quote you.

I also don't give a shit whether you agree or like my opinion either.

It's the internet.

They can keep him and still recover.

34 mil can probably get them 2 of the following:

Turner, Curry, Bog, Kuzma, Trent Jr., Dillon Brooks, Clarkson.

I think they'd have their exception and the rest minimum deals.

you do not need to be a GM, or even have a high school degree, to do simple addition and subtraction.

I am the only person debunking DJ's pie in the sky bullshit.

Nobody else said a thing.

@CitySushi actually spoke in affirmation of DJ's post.

So, yeah.

I said what I said.

You seem to believe that people are supposed to swallow all this nonsensical Lakers bullshit, even if its wrong.

Fuck outta here with that.

I can say whatever I want.

Dispute whatever I want.

.....as long as I follow the rules.

I don't give a shit if you are in your feelings about the state of your team.

If y'all can post the most slanted, retarded , pro Lakers trades and rumors, others can post shit to the contrary.

Cry me a fucking river about negative Lakers shit....lol

Yea. I think James plus a solid FA and then whatever you can get for AD is going to give you more of a shot.

Speaking of the salary cap, is there some reason why the Lakers won't pay any luxury tax? They don't have to go full Lacob but if they want to build around LeBron's last years why not pay some tax?

because its not just 1 person that owns the franchise now. Its the trust....and it is prob. interesting to see how that works.

like for instance- is their a fiduciary duty for the trustee not to purposefully lose money on the team and pay into the tax?

Is it hard to get everyone on board?

Do they not want to spend the money when the Lakers are by far the biggest income driver of the kids- while other teams owners have multi billion dollar public businesses to supplement spending?

this is not your 90's NBA where the basketbal lteam was the owners main business. Most of these teams guys buy as hobies.

A kind of telling quote in "Billions"- which was a pretty good- not great- well maybe sometimes great show------ when Axe tries to buy a franchise- they dont let him---- osmeone says----- being a sports team owner is how they "knight" you in America.

I'm sure they would for the right team.

But, it's stupid to swallow the tax on a play in team.

Ballmer is one the richest owners.

I have said this before....

I'd bet money he doesn't bring this team back if they don't reach the finals.

I just meant if we're talking about next year, bringing new guys in with AD and LBJ, why not get Kyrie and one more decent player, even if that means being over the cap for the next couple years? Win now.
