Probably used as leverage to help Cincy

When I read the Rangers made an offer, I can't help but think of the offer they made to Rendon. While I am certainly glad we didnt make any offer to Rendon that he would have accepted, this is what I think of. A low ball offer that is just for the sake of saying we did it.

Gotta disagree with all of this. The Rangers made a reasonable offer to Rendon that was overshadowed by a completely unreasonable offer from the Angels. And also, teams that don't sign players don't announce what they offered, and certainly not so they can get credit for trying.

I think all of us on this board were PO'd that we didn't get Rendon. I thought this guy was a surefire winner based on what he had done. I am shocked at what little value he has brought to the Angel's. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.

Reasonable enough offer that they knew it wouldn't be accepted. Had the Angels not made the (absurd) offer they made, there was little to no chance the offer the Rangers made, would not be beaten out by any other team with interest. It wasn't reasonable with the intent to sign him.

So since the Rangers didnt sign him, yet the offer was made public, where did the news of the offer come from and what was the point.

Aaron Judge is just killing it. Hitting. 301 and just hit his 42nd Homer with 90 RBIs.

I think there are several FO's and fan bases that are thankful they dodged the bullet, that got the Angels. I loved the player Rendon was and wanted him signed but that injury thing can bite just about anyone at anytime and it is unfortunate

Great talent and athletic ability. I have been surprised to see him playing CF some for the Yankees and playing it pretty well

The Rangers tries to be cute in the Rendon negotiations and were embarrassed. In hindsight, it turned out great. It also taught them a lesson and that made them much more aggressive this past offseason.

The Rangers offer for Rendon did come out the way they usually do, through sources. It was nowhere near what had been speculated Rendon would get.

Everything worked out great though.

Seattle overpaid last night.

The Rangers had no business even offering anything.

The pitchers should attack the zone more. He may see a decline in BB but hopefully we see an increase in hits.

Covid happened too. It was already early in our rebuild to get Rendon, but once everything was pushed back a year for our minor leaguers, it was that much worse. I wanted Rendon even though our window was still thought to be a couple of years away, but had I known everything in the minors would come to a standstill, I never would have wanted him.

It seems like he hit better and better as the year progressed

Our old pal, Chris Martin, has been traded again. He is a Dodger now.

Regardless I was among one of the many that felt this guy could help take us to the next level. I don't mind admitting it.

Can't remember what he turned down exactly but it seems like it was 7+ years with an AAV of at least 30m. Dude gambled huge and looks like he will beat the house.

The media would be the outlet but someone within the Rangers organization had have to have stated the offer and details or it couldn't have been available for the media. I dont think the Rangers made it public to receive credit for making the offer. I just think the offer was made for the organization to justify their attempt.

Yes it worked out perfectly

Yes the Mariners overpaid in talent but we are talking about a team that hasn't reached the post season, in longer than any other team in professional sports. If it gets them in and they get hot and lucky and go deep, it might do them the good, they were looking for.

If I wasn't wrong more than I am right, I might have a career in baseball, beyond coaching LL kids. LOL
