Funny...I not only remain unsure if Mayfield is what he thinks he is as a NFL QB and I'm even less sure Watson is this top 5 NFL so many fans seem assured of.
I'm with you about Watson, he couldn't even hit stationary targets with no pass rush:

DeAndre Hopkins and a good pair of legs made Watson and by now he's had 2 ACL injuries and no Hopkins. To his credit he did good in 2020 without Hopkins but think we have seen the best of Watson and now that he's gotten paid.....well...lets just see how it goes.

Not only all of those things, but now he's going to be under an immense amount of scrutiny. Not just the kind that comes with a big contract, but the kind that comes with being accused of sexual assault - and not just once or twice...but upwards to 24 (26) times...

Browns' Baker Mayfield era ends: too short, too slow, too cocky (from the akron beacon journal)

Some parts of the article.

After last season, Browns players spoke out, saying their unity and brotherhood were not tight enough.

Mayfield, seeking a new team after the Watsons trade and the singings of QB's J. Brissett & J. Dobbs, did himself no favors in terms of convincing potential employers he could be a team-building leader with his comments "Ya never know: You know what I mean?" podcast.

His comments are stunning bullshit and proof he's way too arrogant and takes no accountability for his own bad play.

"It's a huge battle within the locker room in my position being a QB. Some of these guys don't play the game because they love it, they're playing it to get a retirement fund. They're making tons of a million dollars and they don't care about winning."

"How can I get the best out of people that are making a shit-ton of money? I could always motivate people when we weren't making money. That was easy. I can get in their face; I can do all that...You're trying to get to that level"

What a jackass.

We gave up way too much for this guy. Though it does set up an anti-elite competition between Sam and Baker best labeled "battle of the busts".

That "to his credit" aside was with Cooks and Fuller at WR (when healthy) and he put up career best numbers like 4823 yards on 70%, 33 TDs, 7 INTs. His ACL injuries were in 2014 and 2017; his only notable injury since was a lumbar strain late in 2019 where he missed a game, but served as the backup. What else you got?

That's just it Harold, anyone can see Watson's off the cart ability to extend plays but passing in tight windows consistently matters. Three Four huge plays followed by a back breaking play loses the game more than not. It is a game of big plays...bad ones just count double.

Much to still see about most QB's...very few have arrived

There are times you should keep your mouth shut, this was one of them. Instead BM doubled down on his arrogance.

Behind one of the worst OL's for years. Nobody mentions that. There is no way we can predict but people think he is just going to all of sudden regress, it might take some game action to get back in the feel of the game but you either have it or you don't. The elite OL should help....you would think...ohh and the elite running game.

When I hear the word bust about a QB I think of players like A. Smith, J. Russell & R. Leaf.

BM's 29-30 with a road playoff win (completed 61.6% of his passes) 92 TD's & 56 int's

Akili Smith: 3-14 (completed 46.6% of his passes) 5 TD's & 13 int's

Jamarcus: 7-18 (completed 52.1% of his passes) 18 TD's & 23 int's

Leaf: 4-17 (completed 48.4% of his passes) 14 TD's & 36 int's

I mean, I saw the podcast and it was a bit overblown. A couple things he shouldn't have said but was mostly guys joking around and most of his comments about the Browns were positive.

Agree. Not worthy of the #1 pick? absolutely looks that way, but bust seems like it should be reserved for guys like the ones you mentioned.

What he said was pretty damn clear.

His bad play wasn't his fault. It was the fault of him teammates that were just there to collect a check. That's a pretty fucked up thing to say.

Another example of how he takes no accountability for his own bad play.

You can say it was overblown and he was just joking around. His comments say otherwise.

Actually only Russell was a # 1 overall pick.

I mentioned those three QB's because they were the only ones I could think of that were top picks without looking stuff up.

Leaf was taken 2nd (boy did the Colts dodge a bullet) and Smith was taken 3rd.

That's not really what he said (the bad play not his fault aspect).

For sure don't need to be #1 picks to be busts (or QBs). Harrington and Shuler also come to mind. For us, alone, there is TRich, Manziel, Gibson and Manziel since the return. Weeden, too.

There's no competition. Mayfield is the Panthers #1 QB for 2022 unless he stinks the joint up or someone significantly outplays him.
