Dunning is starting on Friday.
For Saturday They could use Richards, Brock and Hearn to get through 7 innings I would imagine. With the extra rest days I’m sure the bullpen would be fine. Then Otto could start on Sunday. Call up Ragans Sunday night and have him pitch on Monday vs the Royals just in time for his next start.
Send John King down and Hearn take Kings spot in the bullpen.
To make room for the 40 man- axe Nick Snyder
I am all for sending King down and trying Hearns out of the BP. The only time I want to see King right now is when the game is out of hand.

Josh Smith seems to have a ton of baseball IQ, teachability, work ethic, and the right attitude. Those things along with a whole lot of natural talent are going to make the young man a star in this league. I see more coming from him over the next 10 years than anyone in the organization, with maybe Jung being the exception. Those two "Josh's" could form the core of a very talented team for the next 10 years.

Some of the talking heads are starting to speculate about the possibility of the rangers trading Perez.

trading Darvish, Gibson, and lynn seemed like no brainers, but this feels different. I think Perez fits our window because this is probably the last year we’re not trying to compete.
it's possible but i'm thinking we are now likely to be non-competitive until 2024

As long as the Rangers aren't making any trades with the purpose of a postseason push this season, I'm OK with it.

Yeah would definitely want a guy with some control left. Not an ace but a guy that could be an ace. Someone who has 2 years in and has good peripherals

We both see this season as REBUILD. Thinking postseason is out. The team is coming along nicely imo and does not need any distraction. Concentrate on 2023/24.

Both Matt Moore and Garrett Richards have historically been starters so i wouldn't be surprised to see one or both at least open with 2-4 innings on Saturday and Sunday

Who could be on the move -- and where -- at the Deadline?

Footer: The Wild Card standings are mildly interesting, even this early. The Rangers are within five of the third spot, but they're four games under .500. That seems like a team that should probably stand pat at the Deadline and keep the focus on '23 and beyond. But what if they go on a little bit of a run, reach .500 and are maybe three or four back? It's still hard to imagine them moving into "good team" territory in '22.

Castrovince: Can't put anything past the Rangers. In the purest baseball terms, they had no business spending half a billion dollars on middle infielders this past winter. But they did it because they are serious about turning the corner. And once you go down that road, it would be ridiculous to stand pat at the Deadline if you have a mathematically feasible road to October.

Feinsand: Correct. So if you’re Dombrowski or [Mariners president of baseball operations] Jerry Dipoto, you’re doing everything you can to get to October. If you’re [Rangers president of baseball ops] Jon Daniels, you might be able to look beyond 2022 and set yourself up for 2023.
Though I recently listed Martín Pérez as a potential trade candidate and Rangers Twitter lit me up. Texas fans want no part of being a seller, that’s for sure. And this was before they made a little jump in the standings.

The additions of Corey Seager and Marcus Semien seem to have injected some life and hope into the fan base, so maybe Daniels and [GM] Chris Young decide to make a move or two in an effort to get to the postseason and have something to build on.

we need to ignore these so-called "experts" and stay firmly on the path we have chosen

That is why some of Newberg's proposals make no sense to me. He would rather trade for a guy who is going to free agency in a couple of years than sign a top free agent pitcher.

I would listen to offers for Perez, but they had better blow me away if they want to get him.

I think the Rangers could definitely make a run for a WC spot.
They are dropping Hearn from the rotation, if his replacement(Ragans) pitches well our staff looks pretty darn good.
They brought up Duran and Smith and they are doing great. Semien Has been much better the last 30 games, Seager has had terrible luck when looking into his xBA and he’s barreling balls up, should start to see more balls drop in his way. The team should be much stronger than it was the first 30 games, and better than the last 30 as well.
100% agree with you. I posted several times the past couple months. The Rangers will be above .500 at the All Star break with a favorable schedule. They will be within spitting distance of the WC slots.

if it happens, good. if it doesn't, good because we are moving in the right direction. anyone who believes that winning isn't important doesn't know what they're talking about

I didn’t even think about the schedule and it being favorable. That’s a good point too

I think a trade for a pitcher with 3+ years of control left would be smart. He needs to be pretty darn good though not great but with potential to be great. I’m thinking someone with decent velocity, low BB rate and a decent K rate that could get better with a few adjustments.

With our farm system seemingly loaded with bats, our first pick in the draft most likely being a bat, and our lack of results on the pitching front in the minors, I definitely want an arm in a trade.

Is there a list of players that have to be added to the 40 man at end of year that would be rule 5 eligible?
We have a lot of minor league talent we just can’t keep all of them. Curious if we could piece a few trades together targeting certain returns another team may want in a bigger trade

don't know what Newberg's proposals are here, but in general, trading is easier than signing FA's in certain regards.

I think that was his own decision based on knowing their OF isn't that good. But he doesn't have the speed needed to pull that off anymore but has the heart to try...

The decision to send Josh earlier in the game was an easy one knowing the same thing...

You win some you lose some... :noidea:
Well Josh was running on the 2 out pitch and was almost to second. Looking at the throw the cutoff was in a really bad position. Maybe Beasley saw this and sent him. But yeah weak throw anyways. Good send on 2 outs

Cole though went to 3rdwith no outs and our by a mile. Maybe you send with one out but only if a run behind or tied.

That is how I played and coached. We constantly worked on our cutoff guys being in the correct position. That did not happen
