if we dont sign too many free agents we should get a 3rd round comp pick
Its about contract size, i believe, not amount of contracts.
Dad has this one right. It's about the number of FAs the team loses vs the number of qualifying FAs the team signs--you have to lose more than you sign to get a comp pick at all. If you lost more than you signed, THEN the contract size comes into play to determine the rd of your comp pick(s).

I agree with some of ya'll that the QBs will demand a ton of money. In just the last few years, the market for QBs has exploded. If Carr is traded anywhere, the idea that he'll sign a deal for 30M/year is a FO fantasy. Imo, 35M/year is the absolute (yet still very optimistic) floor b/c they'll demand significantly more than Goff and Wentz (32-33M).

Hard to argue with his points, but his conclusion is questionable if Rivera insists on a quality vet that upgrades the QB position.

On that last drive it was quite apparent when the 49ers got near FG position Kyle did not want to put the game in Grap's hands.
That play on 3rd and 7 was originally going to be a pass, but Kyle took a TO and changed it to a run for to ensure that we got a few extra yards for the FG try and left the Pack with no time left even if we gained nothing. It was pretty clear that Kyle didn't trust Grop in that position.

Jimmy suffered from some bad drops in the game and a near-complete failure of protection, but that INT at the goalline was a classic Bad Jimmy pick. Don't get me wrong--he's not gonna have meltdown games where he throws 4 picks, but he is overly prone to the momentum-killing mistake.

personally don't feel Jimmy G is an upgrade, there are some on the board who want him above MM or Trubisky et al

RR has stated he wants a mobile, big arm ability for getting down field...that aint JG...not to mention he always seems to have an injury and it usually lingers all season

Willis is going to be a bust he is a 2-3 year project
his uncle played for RR

round 2 id be okay with it as long as we had a bridge (Trubisky, MM, etc) and Heinicke all on the roster

Willis at 11 is a wasted pick , willis in round 2 is much better .

Missing on a qb in round one is survivable if you don’t trade up

Jimmy is a significant step up from backup-level QBs like Mariota and Trubisky, but it doesn't sounds like Jimmy is the type of QB Ron is looking for. Deep balls, particularly on the outside, are not his thing.

The media and fans are doing on the guessing. Ron has not said anything you can pin him down on. That is his job, whatever he and his 7 dwarfs want should be kept close to the vest.

If that was the case, his stats would be better. Unless of course you think TH is also a significant step up from backup level qbs.

Most people do not.

The niners are winning in spite of JG, not because of him. Look at his stat lines.
Yikes.

Willis is actually a great fit for this offense, if we can get him in the 2nd, and he doesn't see the field in his rookie year, unless its victory formation or if a game is a blowout.
Thats just me, who thought Lamar would be an MVP? granted he got a few plays here and there as a rookie and the OC really catered to him....but wow, you just never know what can happen if you don't rush a guy

You and I will have to disagree. If "most people" believed as you think they do, the Niners probably wouldn't have bothered to trade the farm for Lance--they'd have just cut Jimmy and signed one of these backup QBs as a FA to get the same production at a quarter of the cost.

Yikes.
That, I DO agree with. This playoff run so far harkens back to the last one 2 years ago where Jimmy was barely allowed to throw the ball. It's just another reason the Niners traded up for a rookie QB.

Essentially this season, Jimmy WAS our bridge QB.

I've got to think that if Lance plays as average as Jimmy G, but adds the scrambling threat....SF will be just fine.
And may still even be able to get capital for Jimmy, dang im jealous.
Where's my Ravens hat?

Grap hasnt shown to be any better than TH in both playoff games this year. Why trade anything for him? The niners need to do something at qb, so let them figure it out and pursue other options in the meantime.
The niners have Lance, he will start next year.
