With our prospects almost ready but not quite there yet..
W Calhoun should get one more chance.. 2-3 months.. see what he’s got.. if he’s not staying healthy or performing then yes call up the prospect that should be ready..
If he is tearing it up and staying healthy then awesome.
Willie has had some very bad luck on the injury front. I think this is his last chance… he definitely has a good bat.. time to put it all together..
If not we will be left behind and cut once someone else is ready
Agreed. If we had someone ready to come up and play it would be one thing, but there is no reason to not want to give him another chance.

Who knows what the team is thinking though. They may actually be in win-now mode and trade off some top prospects for an outfielder or two. In that case, they would probably look for a way to jettison Calhoun.

Maybe they will trade Willie for Gallo and make everybody here happy. Lol

if we sign Suzuki then we don't have space for Willie. we will have 4 OF'ers/DH in Suzuki, Garcia, K. Calhoun and Taveras and just carrying W. Calhoun on the roster as a bench player/DH is a waste

Or perhaps Tavares has to prove it at AAA.
Not necessarily a popular opinion. But yes I think defensive upside is a factor. Just not rushed with Leody.

I don't think anybody here wants to see that but it would really be interesting to see how he does with Semien, Seager, and a couple of other good bats behind him in the lineup

He could make a really good leadoff man in the right situation

I think you can poke a fork into that...
i know you're probably right but i can hope. if not then we need to sign Pham or Rosario to a 1 year deal. that still leaves no room for Willie who is a liability in the field.

oh he would probably be great until he suffers that inevitable injury and ends up on the IR

Willie has little going for him and in a rebuild I really don't believe he has any chance of going forward. If he is better than any guys not yet ready we are in trouble.

im not really rooting against him. I just think his story with the rangers has played out like it did with Mitch. Always hurt, always relied upon, can’t stay on the field. Mitch never complained tho like Willy definitely did.

He sure did play a lot of games for someone that was hurt all the time 2012 and 2014 are the only seasons I would consider injury plagued

From Jeff Wilson:

A group of Texas Rangers prospects will be in Arlington this week for a series of seminars before heading to Arizona for a mini-camp. Prospects who are on the 40-man roster aren’t allowed to attend.

All the big non-40-man prospects are coming, save for second baseman Justin Foscue. He has a prior commitment, a team official said.

Josh Jung? Check. Jack Leiter? Check. Cole Winn? Check. Others? Check.

“We’re expecting status quo on the minor-league side,” Rangers vice president Ross Fenstermaker said. “We’re proceeding as if everything is normal and we’re going to have a normal operation period moving forward. We haven’t been told otherwise.”

The Rangers haven’t pinned down a date for the beginning of minor-league camp, though it should be the first week of March. Most prospects will head to Arizona early, with some staying put after the upcoming mini-camp.

The construction of Rangers Village, which is domitory for minor-leaguers, allows for that. Leiter has indicated he could be in Arizona for good this month.

“A lot of pitchers are going to go out there early,” Fenstermaker said. “With building the Village, we have resources and an opportunity for those guys to get into the environment earlier and get themselves ready. Not everybody will be out there, but a decent amount of our prospects … will come out early.”

I like a lot of what Chris proposes here. The changes I would make to Chris' proposals would be no lottery for the draft, get rid of revenue sharing completely, no expanded playoffs, and keep free agency like it is now. That would be two changes favoring owners and two favoring players.

Chris admits his proposals favors the players to begin with.
