So he's either going to have to have faith that he gets signed by a MLB team or sign another contract with his old team if he wants to be ensured he gets paid...

I would assume because of the interest being showed in him by the MLB teams that he could wait and get a contract. But if it's after 1 Feb how many owners would see it as a way to short change him for his services thinking he doesn't have the option of going back home
i would expect that if he didn't or couldn't secure an MLB contract by January 25th that he will pull his name and stay in Japan for another year. unlike American players Japanese players would never disrespecting their Japanese team by delaying informing them of their availability. custom requires them to let their team know early

I don't see him as a long term piece, but I would like to see him receive enough playing time to give him some trade value. If that doesn't work out then we haven't lost anything.
I never did see him as a long term piece I expected him to be gone by the end of 2020 but he pulled a mini Santana and so the team is giving him more time...

giving him sufficient playing time in 2022 means someone else isn't getting deserved playing time

If he hasn't started throwing yet to test out his arm signing him would be a major risk, especially for any amount of time or money. That being said he could be a big asset "coaching/teaching" the younger pitchers, so do you bite the bullet anyway...

The last I heard he was going to start throwing in December. I never heard anything different since.

Well it is ok to look at more but not seeing one person deserving

Regardless Willie has the most natural bat to ball skill from last year

his bat to ball isn't the issue to me it's the last 4 seasons where out 546 games he was only available for 222 of them. that's less than 50%. we need to look not just 1 stat but all and move on. we have several players in the minors who not only can hit but they can play better than avg defense

Good accessment. He can only stand in the way of other prospects. Time to get on with the guy. He has had more chances than most.

Yep, might as well give him a look in 2022 since none of our OF prospects are ready to come up.

you are usually so not patient with anyone so why do you continue to want to give him more time.

With our prospects almost ready but not quite there yet..
W Calhoun should get one more chance.. 2-3 months.. see what he’s got.. if he’s not staying healthy or performing then yes call up the prospect that should be ready..
If he is tearing it up and staying healthy then awesome.
Willie has had some very bad luck on the injury front. I think this is his last chance… he definitely has a good bat.. time to put it all together..
If not we will be left behind and cut once someone else is ready
