True, although I feel if you offer enough you can convince anyone to extend.

Kind of an apples to oranges comparison but when I've asked friends of mine/clients how they like working for Amazon, I think the most positive response I've ever received is that "it's okay," then immediately bring up the compensation.
Nothing against Amazon, but you are talking a whole different price bracket in MLB so money not always the factor. Location and lifestyle can out rank money when you know you are getting multi millions either way.

Side not on the firing, the Stiles guy went to my high school a few years after me. I don't know him, but small world. He must have been a Seager fan...
That or he forgot to tell Dipoto how great he was the last time they passed each other in the hallway.

That is funny.

At home I always compare Dipoto with Olshey of the Blazers. Olshey is now being investigated for a hostile workplace. Hmmm.

I know lol, shitty comparison. Was just the first thing that comes to mind.

It's hard to really comprehend the mindset of someone when it comes to these types of negotiations. In my profession, clients who make in excess of $400,000 a year are considered wealthy. The amount of money that professional athletes make is completely mind boggling to me. Many of them make more in 1 year than most people have in their retirement accounts.

I'd actually love to know what it's like working with Dipoto.

He strikes me as the type of person who receives constructive criticism from a scout and has the intern tell him that he has been terminated the next morning.

You nailed this one. I think the same exact thing and that would be one more comparison to Olshey. Both love themselves more than they love anyone else. Pricks.

I really hope Mark Canha isn't the splash we're hoping to make. If this is the case, we're going to be in for a disappointing offseason.
I replied to a tweet regarding this same thing. As a move? Yes. As the move? No.

this is why...nothing has happened

Five Days After World Series: Start of free agency, plus more

When free agents hit the open market, they can’t actually sign with other teams for at least five days, leaving it as something of an exclusive negotiation window for former teams. Five days after the World Series wins, the frenzy can begin. (Though it’s not likely to begin this year due to the CBA situation.)

In addition to free agency starting, five days after the World Series also marks the deadline for option decisions to be made. The Red Sox have a few of those decisions that are going to be made this year. J.D. Martinez has a player option for $19.35 million, and right now it seems more likely he’ll stick in Boston. Kyle Schwarber has an $11 million mutual option, and it’s all but certain that will not be executed on both sides. The Red Sox have team options for Christian Vázquez, Garrett Richards, and Martín Pérez. The two latter options are unlikely to be picked up, but the $7 million option for Vázquez will be one of the most interesting early-offseason decisions.

And then finally, five days after the World Series is the deadline for teams to extend qualifying offers to impending free agents. Schwarber is ineligible as he was traded midseason. Rodriguez is unlikely to get one, leaving Martinez as the only possible Red Sox free agent to get the deal. He would certainly get it if he did decline his option as the qualifying offer is for less than his option, but as we said right now it seems more likely he will not opt out.

Schwarber is ineligible as he was traded midseason. Rodriguez is unlikely to get one, leaving Martinez as the only possible Red Sox free agent to get the deal.

while..branden belt...is my dream teamer...Schwarber..for sure is on the list..which is ....short
