the current CBA on December 1st looming over the winter’s proceedings, the already obscure objectives for New York are thrown into further uncertainty. What isn’t uncertain, however, is the Yankees’ large class of arbitration-eligible players — some of whom are due substantial raises.

The coming months will see the Yankees decide to whom they will or will not tender a contract out of the whopping 19 players eligible for arbitration. In no particular order, that class consists of: Aaron Judge, Joey Gallo, Gary Sánchez, Gleyber Torres, Luke Voit, Gio Urshela, Clint Frazier, Miguel Andújar, Tyler Wade, Kyle Higashioka, Tim Locastro, Jordan Montgomery, Jameson Taillon, Domingo Germán, Chad Green, Jonathan Loáisiga, Wandy Peralta, Clay Holmes, and Lucas Luetge.

Per FanGraphs’ RosterResource, that group is projected to earn around $80 million in 2022, which combined with the $139 million in guaranteed salaries, brings the Opening Day payroll north of the $210 million CBT threshold in the soon-to-expire CBA. That’s without making a single addition to the roster. If the Yankees are determined to avoid paying the luxury tax next season, should it exist akin to its current form, they will have to shed some money off the books, and one avenue for achieving that is via non-tender. With that in mind, let’s review the Yankees’ most likely non-tender candidates.

3. The Giants will sign Max Scherzer AND Justin Verlander.
San Francisco could bring back Kris Bryant, and re-signing Brandon Belt would make sense, too. Starting pitching, though, will be Farhan Zaidi’s top priority. And given the organizational preference for shorter-term deals (as well as the organizational embrace of old dudes), either Scherzer or Verlander would be a great fit. The Giants have the rotation space and the resources to outbid the field for both.

well i geuss the mariners...are out ..then..........and they have to sign.....

Good ole squeaky clean Garvey until he got caught with another woman...lol. I grew up watching the Dodgers on TV because back in the mid to late 70's it was either Dodgers, Reds, Yanks, or Red Sox on national TV and the M's weren't around yet. I was a Reds fan because of Bench and the boys, but remember Garvey and Lopes, and Russell and Cey. Some good baseball back then. Your cool story brought back the memories.

My dad was a WW2 vet as well. He served 23 years in the army. He also has been gone for a long time (33 years now). He died at our first and only family retreat 24 days before my 21st birthday. Seems like yesterday.

who the mariners should bring back........
Hector SantiagoRP33.8RLSEA$570,500-
cuz......he is nasty.....some say........with spit......but..

"In 2020, while I was not on the roster of a MLB club, I consulted a licensed physician in Puerto Rico who diagnosed me with a condition and recommended hormonal replacement therapy,'' Santiago said in a statement issued through the Major League Baseball Players Association.

"Because I did not play in 2020, I did not consider that this therapy could ultimately lead to a positive test under MLB's joint drug program. That said, I alone am responsible for what I put in my body, and I was not careful. Therefore, I have decided for forgo my right to an appeal in this matter and accept the suspension. I apologize for any harm this has caused the Seattle Mariners, Mariners' fans, my teammates, and most importantly, my family.''

A 33-year-old left-hander, Santiago is 1-1 with a 3.42 ERA in 13 relief appearances this season. He is a 10-year big league veteran, going 48-51 with a 4.12 ERA and six saves for the Chicago White Sox (2011-13, 2018-19), Los Angeles Angeles (2014-16), Minnesota Twins (2016-17), New York Mets (2019) and the Mariners.

Santiago was the fourth player suspended this year under the major league drug program after Miami pitcher Paul Campbell, Colorado third baseman Colton Welker and San Francisco pitcher Daniel Santos.

But the player has to want to extend. Not just about the money.
True, although I feel if you offer enough you can convince anyone to extend.

Kind of an apples to oranges comparison but when I've asked friends of mine/clients how they like working for Amazon, I think the most positive response I've ever received is that "it's okay," then immediately bring up the compensation.

Kind of why I hate just headlines. But it still is a shitty thing to do. But we have heard from Kyle’s camp Jerry hasn’t talked to him in X but Jerry disputed that. With all the tears that Kyle and teammates had on the last game did he, his family and representatives expect something more? I really hate the way it all went down and seems massively weird going into a year where they want to “win” you aren’t even attempting to bring back your at minimum 2nd best player.
I completely agree with you.

For everything that Seager has done for the organization, the bare minimum for informing him his option won't be exercised should be an invitation to tell him in person.
