Eh, you have way more faith in ego than I do. It would be a hard sell for Jerry to say a dude in AAA is making more guaranteed money than like 18 or so dudes on the 26 man.
Contract be damned I don't see a spot for Evan White at this point. I can't imagine justifying a having him on the roster when he's an elite defender at 1B with absolutely an absolutely horrendous performance at the plate. If they moved him to OF, I don't see any reason to assume that he'd be any better than the guys currently on the roster or in the minors.

Actual salaries.

The 1 year/$20M is a team option so he has no choice, but I doubt management does it.

You could be right with Kikuchi. That will be interesting to see what happens.

Ya I have no idea about the JP part. He deserves more than White but we know it doesn't always works that way.
kuchi prob will pitch .for the mariners..uless they trade to ....yankees,,

The Yankees Are in a Bind

by johnbitzer | 10/14/21 | Explaining valuations, Yankees | 10 Comments

TradesPlayersYankee fans, brace yourselves: If you really want to improve your team, it’s going to hurt. You have two choices: Blow through the luxury tax or trade your best prospects. Pick your poison. The problem Let’s start with the lineup....

The problem

Let’s start with the lineup. Realistically, if everyone is playing their proper positions, the Yankees have legitimate starters at only four positions: RF (Aaron Judge), 3B (Gio Urshela), 2B (DJ LeMahieu), and DH (Giancarlo Stanton). If you give Joey Gallo the benefit of the doubt in LF, that’s five.

That means they need to fill four holes: CF, SS, 1B, and C. And since they’re heavy on RH power bats, ideally they’d fill those with LH contact bats, to the extent that they can.

Meanwhile, on the pitching side, they could also use a No. 2 starter and a couple more bullpen arms.

And they need to do all this now, because Judge is still in his prime and is only under control for one more year (extending him is yet another issue). They also have Gerrit Cole in his prime, and a very itchy fanbase.

The budget

  • As a reminder, there are only two forms of capital with which to improve a team: money or players. If the Yankees want to stay under the luxury tax again in 2022 (after walking a tightrope to do so in 2021), they have very little wiggle room to work with. Let’s take a look:

  • *Projected budget (in millions, per Fangraphs’ Roster Resource): $211
  • *Projected luxury tax calculation: $223

The first luxury tax limit for 2021 was $210, which means, if it stays the same, the Yankees are already over the line. If it climbs to, say, $215 for 2022, they’re still over.

That means they have to start cutting — and that’s before they even think about signing free agents.

Seattle Times staff reporter

“I haven’t seen my parents in about a year and a half,” he said. “They were just saying, ‘That border better be open by October.’”

The preparation for parenthood has offered a needed emotional distraction while he grinds through the recovery from the Tommy John surgery that also included repairs to a torn flexor tendon.

“I’m ahead of schedule right now,” Paxton said. “Obviously there’s a certain timeline and we can’t really go into it further than a certain degree, but everything’s been going great so far.”

Admittedly, it wasn’t going great April 6 when he walked off the T-Mobile Park mound in the second inning of his first start of the season, feeling discomfort in his elbow and forearm.

After the game Paxton seemed hopeful that it might be something minor compared to the flexor tendon strain he suffered in 2020. The pain wasn’t as significant.

But an MRI and multiple opinions revealed the worst — surgery was needed.

“I feel great,” he said. “I don’t have any pain issues right now, just focus on my workouts and my rehab and trying to crush that. Now we’re just working on my shoulder strengthening, forearm and scapula strengthening, and I’m in the gym doing cardio and leg workouts. I’m starting to do more and more upper-body stuff. The further I get away from surgery the more and more I can do at the gym.”

It’s not like he can throw an offseason bullpen like he did this past year to show he’s healthy. With normal recovery from Tommy John surgery set around 10 to 13 months, he will still be rehabbing and building arm strength.

The Mariners, who traded for reliever Andres Munoz and signed reliever Ken Giles while both were recovering from Tommy John surgery, have yet to approach Paxton about coming back for next season.

“Of course, I would listen,” he said. “It’d be great if we could come to something and work out some sort of deal for me to come back. They haven’t come to me yet. We’ll see where that goes. Right now, I’m just focused on doing my work and trying to get back in the best shape possible.”

There’s a silver lining to the lost season James Paxton is having with the Mariners

Paxton was lost for the 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but it's positive to see him make strikes in his recovery. His timetable for a return is estimated to be around the 2022 All-Star break. CBSSports.com

SEA.svg
CBSSports.com
Paxton (forearm), who is out until 2022, has been participating in rehabilitation sessions at T-Mobile Park on a near-daily basis and serving as a mentor to younger pitchers on the roster, the team's official site reports.

The veteran left-hander still has a long road ahead in his recovery, but the fact he's making the best of an unfavorable situation is certainly encouraging. Paxton has reportedly remained free of setbacks in his work back from season-ending surgery for a left forearm strain and continues to have a chance to return to the mound at some point before the All-Star break next season.

yeah .....i still think they should sign pax...........yes i do...especially..with how kuchi is............but who would be minor leaguers....

RHP Levi Stoudt (No. 9 prospect)
Stoudt was one of the many arms that opened the season in High-A Everett's loaded rotation, but he graduated to Double-A Arkansas midseason. With the higher affiliate, he had a 2.55 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings in three starts. At Everett, he was 6-1 with a 3.52 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 64 innings.
The quiet, cerebral Stoudt has bounced back nicely from the Tommy John surgery that he underwent shortly after the Mariners selected him the third round in 2019. He’s emerged as a strong candidate to contribute sooner than later in the Majors if he stays on this trajectory.

RHP Matt Brash (Mariners' No. 10 prospect)
This one is obvious, given that the high-velocity righty was called up during the final week of the regular season to help the Mariners’ late playoff push. The 23-year-old never wound up getting into a game, but that will certainly change in 2022. Brash should be an easy shoe-in to earn an invite to what would be his first big league Spring Training.

Roenis Elías....L/L..good..and hopfully back...from ....T..J..as well

  • Lefty swingman Roenis Elías, who joined the Mariners for a third stint this offseason after missing the entire 2020 season with a flexor strain, will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the entire 2021 campaign. Elías was in camp as a non-roster invitee, so the Mariners have offered him a two-year minor league deal so he can rehab in the Seattle organization.
so maybe.........may or june....

Nick Margevicius 52....maybe...mariners have to give him an other shot......at it......???....hey....work with pax...........lol

then minor league guys.....
Penn Murfee 37
Ian McKinney 19

or someone they trade for..............AAAAAhhhhh..........................ok then
