Notre Dame, why I HATE the Fighting Irish. Snowflakes should avoid this thread.

TRIGGER ALERT, if you are a snowflake, I, personally, hope you move along and go to some other thread. This is America so as far as I'm concerned, anyone here can do whatever they want. But I'd prefer this thread be somewhere that harsh things can be posted and brought up and discussed without people running off and complaining or whining or crying about bullies saying mean things. I can't control how the admins choose to censor or not censor posts in this thread, but I can hope they will try to avoid censoring anything unless absolutely necessary.

We can do our part by keeping our negative remarks as NON personal as possible. Attacking a religion should be allowed. Attacking religious leaders should be allowed, same as attacking politicians should be allowed. But Catholics are people. I have friends and family and co-workers who are Catholic and I like all of them, too. I'll try to remember that, and hopefully anyone else coming in here to contribute keeps that in mind as well.




I have tons of issues with Notre Dame, some of them are not very serious at all, from just hating their stupid football team, to not wanting them in the B1G Conference as some seem to want, to some issues that are very serious, including having some responsibility in the child sex abuse scandals that have been rocking the RCC in general over the years and lots inbetween.

I'm inviting all who HATE ND to come in here and say why, and I don't care if it's silly petty shit like you don't like the color of their uniforms or you are offended by their choice of mascot or because their fb coach is a jerk, or if it's that you believe Notre Dame is where the Devil himself has set up his throne, share those thoughts and opinions here.



And for any and all Catholics, you are welcome as well to defend your school and your religion if you are Catholic as I am very sure ND's being Catholic will be brought up as one of the reasons people don't like ND. But be warned, I'll encourage a ZERO TOLERANCE for censorship rule in this thread. I'm not a site admin, so they may choose to do some censoring, but I'd hope they won't. I'm hoping they will just leave this thread alone. But that may depend on us. I encouraged non-Catholics to try to avoid personal attacks, so same goes for any of you Catholics coming in here, try not to take attacks of your religion as personal attacks. The RCC has murdered at least one human being during it's existence for disagreeing with it, so that alone qualifies it as not perfect and hence deserving of SOME criticism at least.

I don't think it is.

They accept muslims, atheists, and openly practicing homosexuals, gave Obama an honorary degree and gave Biden it's highest award?

None of that seems very Catholic to me.

of course I hate ND, they're a bunch of cheating pricks that like the smell of their own farts. Most ND fans never attended the school but simply root for them because they get preferential treatment in the NCAA and people want to root for the Irish or for Catholics. I prefer fanbases that have a connection to the team somehow rather than liking a mascot or wanting to root for a trendy team.

But to claim ND cannot be a Catholic school because they don't ban Muslims is dumb as fuck.

i hate them because their football players have a high graduation rate. they could have a much better team if they had the scholastic standards of some of the other perennial top five or ten teams.

I hate them because back when they were rivals with the university of Miami I was a big hurricanes fan. I don’t have any special allegiance to either school I just liked Miami’s style of football better than that of notre dame’s. I always felt as if ND student athletes got preferential treatment over other schools so I always liked it whenever they lost. UofM had some great players/teams back then. I loved watching them play. The 3 missed FG games against FSU were priceless although in later years I came to really like and respect Bobby Bowden.

That's a pretty dumb statement. Fanbases can't be just students or grads or have some amorphous connection to the university.

Agree. Never understood that argument. I have a friend who's an ND fan who's probably more of die hard fan than 90% of ND fans. The only time he's set foot on campus was when his wife got him tickets to the Bush Push game.

When I was just a wee lad, Ara P. had a coach's show on TV in Columbus on Sunday mornings and my Dad watched it every week. Meanwhile, Woody Hayes was relegated to 11:30PM on Saturday and I wasn't allowed to stay up to watch.

Glad you responded since I live in western NY, which is a hotbed of ND fandom, yet I'm a USC fan. I recall being the only person at a party cheering for USC in the Bush Push game. In 2002, I went to the USC-UCLA game , which was Carson Palmer's Heisman season. Since I was a little kid, I had dreamed of seeing a game in the Rose Bowl.

I almost felt bad for him. His dream of attending a game at ND stadium comes true and it's that game. I had a congratulatory text all typed out and was about to hit send when Leinart to Jarrett happened.

The Rose Bowl is iconic. Been to the Rose Bowl game a few times. Interestingly, the most fun I've had was when I went with a friend who was an ASU season ticket holder. Those ASU women knew how to celebrate. lol

Well, I don't know that they've gone out of their way to make it publicly known that they are, but when talking to people within the RCC world/hierarchy it seems that is what they try to sell to "the fans" or more realistically, "the donors". Like any other big college, it's all about the money.
