Yes, hockey. The Miracle on Ice, that was all on the Gophers.

Former Gopher hockey players are making millions of dollars a year playing in the NHL, thank you.

UMn is the #1 feeder program to the US Hockey program ALL-TIME, and the #1 feeder to the NHL ALL-TIME as well.
never played hockey, but it is intense, and these days probably less woke, than other sports. so, props to them.

wonder what kind of team mit has.

The Top 10 schools in total Academic All-America® honorees
(as of July 2020)

340Nebraska
339MIT
266Notre Dame
252Stanford
207Penn State
194Washington University in St. Louis
192Alabama
192Emory
185Nebraska Wesleyan
176Augustana (Ill.)
Well, 4-5 of those are not Div 1.

PSU only had like 3-5 AAAs in 2020-2021, while Bama had 18, so Bama will easily pass up PSU by next year. Stanford had something like 24 this year, while Notre Dame had only between 3-5, if my memory serves me correctly? So Stanford already moved up past ND for the all-time total AAA honors.

Over the last 7 years, Only Stanford and Bama have produced more than Minnesota. It was those same 3 holding the same top 3 spots after last year, and as far as I can tell those 3 only increased their lead over everyone else with their results this year.

Minnesota produced 15 this year.

If my memory serves me correctly, Minnesota produced over TWICE AS MANY AAAs as PSU and Notre Dame have over the past 7 seasons. At this rate it won't be long before Minnesota is on that top ten list.

Wow, 70 years huh?

So the Natl Title won in 1960 and the Rose Bowl victory over UCLA in 1962, the Big Ten Title won in 1967 all while producing the first African American 1st Team All-American at QB and 2 Outland Trophy winners wasn't relevant, eh? lol

And the new Stadium, the new practice facilities and the hottest new coach at the time all argue against your claim Minnesota will never be relevant again.
Minnesota will never be relevant again.

I believe UMn had 163 after 2020. They added 15 this last year. Guessing Augustana got more than 2, so another year or two and UMn will be on this list probably.

Now if you included only Div 1 schools on the list, UMn would for sure be among the Top Ten.

Guess I was wrong, Augustana, Ill hasn't gotten an AAA since 2019, they are trending downward.

So UMn passed them up this year.

so you were serious about hockey. Good for you. You’re like those guys at JohnsHopkins who are constantly trying to tell us that we should all care about lacrosse, because Johns Hopkins has won 9 national championships. Guess what, I’ll care about hockey the same time I start to care about lacrosse.

I loved that show, lol. My father's nicknames were Coach until he retired and moved, then he coached part time and his students told him he looked more like a Luther than a Coach, so his nickname's Luther to all those kids and Coach to most.

B
But they were the shit in the 1960s
Which is pretty impressive seeing as in the late 1950's the admin was leaning heavily towards dropping football.

What saved them? UMn was one of the most progressive universities in the nation, brought in a bunch of blacks and was right in the B1G mix all through the 60s. The 70's wasn't horrible, either, beating a #1 ranked Michigan 27-0 or something like that, in 1977, and producing Tony Dungy and a few other future NFL All-Stars.

UMn ranks #1 all-time in 2 NFL categories, or did the last time I checked.

UMn alum rank #1 in the # of players who led the NFL in scoring. And...

UMn alum rank #1 in the # of players who got named to NFL All-Decade Teams. At least as of the naming of the 2000-2009 team.

We should care about hockey because some people we never met make good money playing it? How many soccer titles has UM won? Baseball? Basketball?
