La Russa's facemask looks like a party tent - what's he doing in there?

As a former catcher (bad one) - I can't stand the lack of mitt target Collins shows to the pitchers - that's pretty basic. Speaking of Collins - his bat - I think - will be valuable this season, but the future looks like a DH battle between Eloy, Collins and Mercedes.

The Sox pitchers lead the majors - by a country mile - in total KOs. What's it going to look like when they start to pitch well?

Vaughn already plays a better LF than Eloy every did.

Madrigal played exceptional defense in college and in the minors (and he could run the bases well then) - I have to think what he is screwing up is correctable, but it's hard to watch right now.

Every time I see Billy Hamilton - I have an urge to donate to hunger in America.

Abreu has 10 RBIs in 6 games - I don't care what anyone says about the RBI stat - Abreu is valuable with guys on base - even if he wasn't good at anything else.

I am now officially glad to see Adam Eaton on the team - he contributes in lots of different ways.

Agreed. I think we've known all along that eventually there was going to be a logjam with our potential DHs - and don't forget at some point down the road, even if it's a couple of seasons away, Abreu will also be joining that group. Maybe not this season, but somewhere along the line there will undoubtedly be a trade or two to clear the excess.

I'm still looking for something to explain why if - La Russa's training camp was so detailed with fundamentals - that this Sox team has started off obviously lacking in the basics of fielding and base running.

Now that I got to see Nick Williams up close a few times, he looks like the skinny kid brother of Ken Griffey Jr.

Love this quote from Lynn after last night's domination:

"The first time and a half through the rotation, we haven’t done what we’re expected to do and are capable of," Lynn said. "So we’ve been talking about it.

"It’s in their court. I started it."

Two more quick random notes on this White Sox day off:

Altho I loved that blast from the Yerminator in yesterday's win, for some reason, it just didn't look like it travelled 485 ft, even tho it's listed as the official distance. But regardless, he crushed that sucker.

Soooo glad the Sox didn't listen to me and ink James Paxton. Not that he was amongst my early choices, but as the offseason wound down, at one point I had him targeted as our 5th starter. It now looks like he's headed for a long stretch on the IL with TJ surgery.

Abreu is good but hes looked foolish many times on sliders early this year. Hes also had a crapload of bases loaded opportunities.

the investigation is for cheating. marking up his balls and introducing sticky substances. IF it's true then he's a hypocite on top of it all as he was such an outspoken critic of the astros.
My friend - you know pitchers and you know character.

Meanwhile - Dane Dunning got off to a good start in Texas. He has 1 start - 6 innings pitched - 3 hits - 0 walks - gave up a run on a homer - winning pitcher and is 1-0. Good for him.

Luis Robert has walked 4 times in 8 games - that's a very good trend for him - even though he is still striking out at a 33% clip. Last year, It's early, but that is an increase in his walk rate of about 25% over last season. If he could just resist swinging at the low - outside slider - he could be Mike Trout yet.
