Hmmmm, guess I saw Gaskin totally different (Possible I watched more Miami games due to my daughter being a fan?). He battled for extra yards and ran extremely hard and did very well when healthy. Honestly, Tua is showing all the signs of a ‘Bama QB bust to me... but I get that the Dolphins don’t give up on him just yet. They need WRs that can stay on the field first and foremost. That is how you compliment Gesicki... O Line, draft a Minkah Fitxpatrick replacement and build one of those teams that any ole schlub RB can succeed behind... Gaskin was hardly the problem for Miami last year. If anything, he was a surprise success... and that is what I meant with the Mack comparison. He did everything you could have asked of him, so is it just that you don’t trust it because he wasn’t supposed to? JMO.

Marlon Mack situation is a great comp, and Treff outlines the reason - it isn't about them (Mack/Gaskins) not being big names, but entirely about them being average or replaceable.

Mack had a great season 2yrs ago, and by most evaluations, he still left a ton of yards on the field behind the Colts OL. The RBs that it's worth retaining and, dare I say, worth signing to a 2nd contract, are the ones that gobble up everything given then have the ability to create more on top.
The rest of them are all situation/opportunity dependent and can be interchanged with some 40-60 other good RBs trying to get their chance.

Could totally see Miami using a 2nd or 3rd rd pick on a RB, but also totally plan on them using their 2 early first rounds picks on OL/WR
Ahhh, “replaceable” is actually a perfect word. Can they upgrade Gaskin in the draft? Sure! Is it a critical need? Not based on what I saw and the numbers put up when healthy... And this is with a marginal passing game, mind you.

I trust it once FA and the draft passes us by, and they didn't make any significant additions to the RB room. Agree with you completely that RB isn't a need for Miami, but also think that they do everything possible to make Tua fit after the last few picks have all failed. So that typically means beefing up the OL and giving the QB weapons. Parker/Preston/1st rd pick, Gesicki already at TE....so that really just leaves us with RB left to use any draft capital against to help Tua.

In true Patriots fashion, the coaching staff put together a great defensive unit with cast-aways and no-name guys. I don't expect them to use a 1st or 2nd round pick on D unless someone high on their board falls

I see RB as a need, but yes, far from the most pressing need. Which is why I think they add a free agent with all that cap room as opposed to burning draft capital where they can lock up picks "cheaply" for 4-5 years, especially the likely OT they grab, those don't come around as FA's very often, and when they do, they're generally too beat up to be worth it.

now if only he can do something about Dionte's hands....

View attachment 265836

The Steelers had 4 guys in the top 25 for drop rate per PFR(30 Target min)

9 Connor 9.3%
10 Johnson 9%
19 Ebron 7.7%
22 Washington 7.1%

plus Samuels had 21.4% 3 on only 14 targets. Seems like a team wide issue 43 total drops

I see both the missing name, and the solution...
Throw it to Claypool

His drop rate was better, but he still had 6 drops and a he had the 2nd worst catch rate(56.9%) on the team. Using Claypool more is a good idea though, but he's more of a gadget guy and they need to find creative ways to get the ball in his hands he's basically Cordarrelle Patterson 2.0 in a better situation.

Claypools ceiling is astronomical, and i expect a leap forward this year and next. But there is a reason he lost work to james washington for a portion of the year...ppl saw the blow up games and highlights and became tantalized.

At this point , I'm not ruling out anything. Dead cap? Who cares. Cap hit? Who cares? Anything goes.

I dunno what exactly triggered this QB carousel this year..but it's spinning, and dominoes have already started falling. RW, Watson, Carr, Darnold, Mariota..Kevin Costner-Draft Day-esque trades with 3+ number 1's, why not?

He'll, I would even be inclined to buy Andrew Luck unretiring rumors the way its going.

I attribute that reason to being a raw, unpolished rookie.
Stomp ain't wrong that he's currently a gadget type niche player. But, is he a guy that can hone his craft? Learn the nuances the position? Read the coverages, find the holes, run routes with precision, create separation with something other than "out-athleting" the competition? All those things can be taught, he has all the tools that cannot be taught. Can he be that guy? Or is he really a new version of Patterson??
I don't own him in any leagues at all...and I'm holding out hope that he will be that guy.

Wow. I had to look up pattersons measurables. Never realized he was that big....good comp!

yeah i agre with what you are saying 500%. Concerning he came out early in the year ahead of washington. But he came back in end of the year.

Hes gonna get every chance. Juju said he wants to stay. But hes gonna hve to take a HUGE discount. Its likely claypool is moving up next year. Clearly ben doesnt hesitate to throw to him...

Supposedly his work ethic and humbleness is fantastic.

Yeah, I don't what kind of restructuring they do for Ben they still aren't going to be able to afford to pay Juju anywhere close to what he wants, so that should definitely mean more opportunities for Claypool. He won't ever be a high volume guy though unless his route running precision improves a lot but he will always be able to go up and get the ball. Reminds me of Mike Williams except he can actually stay on the field. LOL.

Just went on and saw this. I would love to see what he could do if somebody would actually let the guy carry the rock more than a few times per game, but sadly that will just never happen at this point:

DUKE JOHNSONRB, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT

Texans released RB Duke Johnson.

The move saves the Texans around $5 million in cap space for 2021. Johnson played in 27 games for Houston and rushed for 645 yards and three rushing scores. An excellent pass catcher, Johnson reeled in 72 balls for 659 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns during his two seasons with the Texans. Johnson was relegated to a situational back in the Houston offense, seeing double digit carries just three times in two years. He averaged a mere 3.59 targets per contest in 27 games with the Texans, much to the frustration of Duke Johnson truthers everywhere. Johnson didn't stand much chance of making the 2021 roster with Houston entering full rebuild mode. Johnson, who will be 28 in September, should catch on with a team in need of an experienced third down back.

I can see Darnold and Mariota getting moved, but don't see the others getting traded. I think for the vast majority the dead cap and cap hit matter. A few teams have kicked the can down the road, with a all in approach. Don't think that's the norm. Rams have gone full hog with the approach, not only kicking the can down the road cap wise, but dealing a slew of future 1st round picks away to boot. Very high risk and with all that risk they aren't favorites to go to the Superbowl. Maybe a couple of teams see a short window of opportunity and follow suit, but I think it isn't likely. Just all IMO.
