After seeing Ruggs flop a little bit in Vegas last year, it does make me wonder how many teams can actually properly utilize someone like Waddle in this draft. I like Waddle a lot but I'm not sure I love the fit on a lot of these teams picking earlier in the draft compared to the other top WRs on the board.
I’m not too worried, I believe he's #2 WR in this class and should go around pick #10. To me Waddle is a fair bit better than Ruggs. Waddle has the Ruggs speed plus the Hill like twichiness, great after the catch skills, good route running and can high point the football.

I like Waddle more than Ruggs, too, although I might be biased because about 1/4 of Waddles highlights involve making plays against Mizzou. The main difference between the two is that I feel like Waddle has a more developed move set for making players miss in the open field.

I'm not writing off Ruggs entirely, though. The Raiders offense was better when Ruggs was there just due to spacing and while the Raiders didnt take as many deep shots they were really effective when they did. If he has another underwhelming year next year then maybe I'll think poorly of that pick.

That really tells you how far the WR position has come in the last 10 years. Used to be that you NEVER expected anything from a rookie WR.

I hardly ever saw the Raiders this last year so I have no idea how he looked. But I wouldnt get too down on a slow rookie year. Rugg's most comparable player would be Tyreek Hill and he did about as good as Hill did as a rookie. I am still not sure how Hill was ever held to under 10 ypc average. You look at the player he is today and you would say that isnt even possible.

Especially for a year with a vastly reduced preseason. Everything about this past year is an outlier in a way.

Trevor Lawrence going to the Jaguars feels a bit like Blake Griffin going to the Clippers. Really high profile guy going to what is basically a cursed team. I don't feel like the Jaguars get enough credit for being a dumpster fire of a franchise.

In the past 13 years, the Jaguars have finished last in their division 7 times, third place 4 times, second place 1 time, and first place 1 time. They've only won more than 8 games once in the past 13 years but that was a pretty memorable year so its easy to think that they get back. They can make some FA moves.

Still....if I was Lawrence I would try to go to a different team. My .02. I don't think Lawrence is that much of a can't miss prospect that a team drafting poorly for a decade won't kill his career.

Probably why they made the flashy move to get Urban, draft TL and try to change some things...college to NFL coaches usually don’t work so this could end up being a disaster move. Very small chance it works out though, they just need to do better managing their players and getting good targets in FA

Wilson over Mac Jones is easy. Arm talent and mobility.

I still remember ranking the 2018 QBs in this order:

1. Baker Mayfield
2. Josh Rosen
3. Lamar Jackson
4. Sam Darnold
5. Josh Allen

...and Josh Allen might end up being one of the best players in the NFL for the next decade. There is only so much we know about QB prospects as fans and even then we're often wrong. Its up to them to develop.

The only person, as far as I can tell, who accurately give QB rankings is Chris Simms. I find him a bit annoying but he is by far the best QB analyst in the business right now...or the luckiest.
It's important to evaluate quarterbacks based on their SKILL SET, not the team they played on. Allen placed #5 on many of these fan sites because he went to a MWC school and didn't put up the eye-popping stats in college. Allen's production was hindered by the fact he didn't have great material to work with and typically didn't throw the ball more than 30 times a game.

Mahomes wasn't seen as a top 10 pick, when he got out of college. Many pointed to the Big-12 curse for not drafting him. But when you looked at the skill set -- the big arm, the ability to make complex throws flawlessly -- were obviously there.

Problem is it doesn’t always work like that...that’s why it’s a crapshoot at times. Josh Allen changed his throwing motion, footwork everything and pretty much did something nobody has ever done before in NFL history. The best and fastest turnaround in NFL history going from a very inaccurate QB with bad form to a very accurate QB with good form. So really when teams passed over Allen it was for good reason, the mechanics weren’t there and if it wasn’t for a 360 turnaround he would still have those issues.
Of course you have to look at skill set but using Allen as an example is like saying there will be another 6th round pick to succeed like Brady. One in a million.

I think if I was to have a Big Board top 10 right now in terms of value and talent, I'd go:

1. Trevor Lawrence
2. Penei Sewell
3. Zach Wilson
4. Justin Fields
5. Kyle Pitts
6. Ja'marr Chase
7. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah
8. Caleb Farley
9. Jaylen Waddle
10. Micah Parsons

7 offensive players seems like a bit much but thats what Im seeing so far.

It is an offensive top heavy draft for sure. Part of that is most of the top defensive talent opted out of the season with guys like Farley, Parsons, and Rousseau. Throw in then the QB's really rising to the occasion. Lawrence and Fields did not disappoint and Lance already had the hype to overcome not having a season. Wilson rising up as much as he did was a nice thing to see as well. Throw in then generational players like Pitts and Sewell at their positions and possibly an even better WR class at the top than last year.

I would say a few things happened for Josh Allen to be successful. The change in the league over the past 5 or so years is part of it. Teams have been a bit more willing to set up an offense to fit the skill set of the QB rather than make them fit into the 3 or so major offensive systems that were ruling the NFL for a lot of years. He went to a team that was willing to do that and work to surround him with talent. When he first got to Buffalo they had almost nothing at the skill positions but have used the last 3 years to really build up that offense (showed in the defense taking a step back now).

Really how teams should be evaluating QB's these days as Daniel Jeremiah I think put it is looking at that raw athleticism and then checking out the character of the player. The guys that have been successful have elite traits like Mahomes with his arm, Allen with just his overall everything, Jackson his running ability, Watson his athleticism, and then all of them have a great work ethic and personality to make it work. We have had athletic guys come through like Paxton Lynch that did not have the character to really work in the league. Have to have those two traits and if you do then you can build around that and make something great.

The next 4 on my big board are Slater, Devonta Smith, Lance and Darrisaw so Im just seeing a top heavy draft with offensive talent.

Its hard for a non-Edge defensive player to bust into the top 10 for me, though. JOK has mad coverage skills which shouldn't really be done as much against WRs in the NFL but I'd certainly trust him against RBs and TEs. I think Parsons and Rousseau both hurt their draft stock by not playing. I do still like Parsons as he just flies on the field and you can see those pass rusher traits but he isn't quite as refined as you like coming out from the neck up. Devin White wasn't really ready, either, and he has been awesome and I think Parsons does have that upside but I don't expect him to get drafted quite as high. Farley is someone I have high because they don't make CBs with that high of a ceiling very often. A guy who can play Man Coverage and then have the ability to run with someone downfield and then become the receiver and grab INTs. Farley does have more red flags than some of these other prospects which is why he is lower on the list but I think he is going to be good.

Part of why White has been so successful early on is Tampa Bay is playing him exactly to his skill set. They are not asking him to run down field in man coverage with a TE/RB very often. They are asking him to move sideline to sideline and use his huge athleticism to make plays. That or they are asking him to blitz up the middle and disrupt an offense. Whoever drafts Parsons is going to want to do the same thing. IF you are asking him to drop into coverage on a regular basis he is going to fail early and often.

I'm also a huge Farley fan. If the Broncos stick at 9 and don't take a QB or Sewell (wishful thinking) then Farley is the guy I want to see them take. One of the few guys that could run step for step with guys like Tyreek Hill and Henry Ruggs and actually have the size advantage. Like you said they do not build them like him. IF he can stay healthy I think he will be an extremely talented CB in the NFL.

JOK I have some issues with. He isn't a traditional LB and probably would be better in that hybrid safety role that you see some in the league. It has value for sure just not sure if he is a 3-down type player and I'm not using a top-10 pick on a guy that I don't see on the field every play on their side of the ball.

I don't know. Looking at the Bucs snap count, Lavonte David play even more snaps than Devin White and JOK is probably closer to David. The whole idea behind JOK is that he allowed Notre Dame to play base defense at a crazy rate last year so he was basically an essential cog.

I don't think he'll go in the top 10, though. He'll probably either go 15, 17, or 19 if I had to guess with the Raiders being the most likely to take him.

Oh I think there is a role for him in the NFL. And certain teams and how they run their defense he could be highly successful. I just think with JOK it matters a lot more where he goes than say a guy like Parsons.
