my question is.
Of these 1st round picks.
Which one is the most intelligent?
That would be my guess who does the best or last the longest.

What order in intelligence would you list these top 5 guys?

For right now I have:
  1. Lawrence: Has all the tools you can ask for in a QB just needs to work on overall consistency. There are times Lawrence has made some bone head decisions, miss open throws, and not make the best read while pressured but more times than not he make the right plays in these circumstance
  2. Fields: He has all the tools and I believe he's going to be good but he really needs to work on getting through his reads and not holding on to the ball. As a starter in his two years he has average almost 3 sacks a game (near 100th in CFB) while playing behind the OL at OSU
  3. Wilson: Still have to look at him more.
  4. Jones: See post #19
  5. Lance: More of a project to me. Incredible athleticism and good arm but not much film of him having to make a throw while under pressure or in tight windows and he has inconsistent footwork, has a pattern of not seeing open WRs

FWIW, I think if Kyler Murray was in this draft class, he would've gotten drafted 4th or 5th. Expectations are high for these QBs

curious, i keep asking folks, what exactly they like about jones and lance, but exactly zero folks have a response. It seems they "just like him" ......not saying thats you. I am genuinely curious what people see.
Sorry....just now seeing this
I think he's very accurate with the football. I like his poise and decisions where to go with the football.
I think he's the 3rd best QB option in this draft, behind Lawrence & Wilson

certainly possible I guess. I think McCarron isn't near as accurate with the football and Fromm's best season was his 1st, he was a steady decline from there, so I can't see that comparison

Fields and Lawrence ahead of him wouldn't be shocking. Wilson ahead of him would be 4th.

I definitely wouldn't have Trask or Jones ahead of him.

Kyler was very highly rated.

edit: maybe i was off a bit. Most pundits had him rated equally with josh allen.

No way IMO. He would be 2nd overall.

He was one of the best QB prospects I have ever scouted. The only knock on him was his size. A big knock....but not as big in the NFL as it used to be.

I think 4 QB's go in the 1st round.

I don't think Jones will. Guy just had it too good and most NFL scouts will see that. On the rare occasions that things didnt go right, Jones was not good enough to be considered a first round prospect.

....but of course it only takes 1. And as my hometown team proved when they selected Christian Ponder when he CLEARLY wasnt a 1st round prospect with the #11 overall, NFL teams do make really questionable choices when it comes to QB's.

Imo, the other knock was him getting to the second and third read instead of just using his legs. A lot of plays at OU were schemed open fairly well.

A big part of this QB process will be evaluating Fields from the neck up. Rosen and Kizer were mediocre in college because they couldn't process but Fields had a great college career.

If we're going to knock how great the talent is around Jones then do the same for everyone else. Fields and Lawerence were surrounded by great talent in their college careers and the gap between NDSU and their FCS opponents and BYU and their G5 opponents in not much different then the advantage Jones has at Alabama. Out of the top 5 QBs, I think Lance has the least film where you can see him throw under pressure or throw in tight windows. At least for Jones against UGA he was able to show what he can do in a dirty pocket and throw to guys who wasn't always open

Strong argument, and both schools have a weak modern history for NFL starting QBs. It's basically Tua and Watson (and now likely Lawrence).

That said, Jones doesn't have any elite attributes that are easy to point out to elevate him.

I find the commentary in bold to be extremely problematic.

For starters, passing stats and winning in college are overrated measurements. Every quarterback out of Ohio State, Alabama, or Oklahoma had a great college career. They go to schools with a stacked offense and defense -- high caliber wide receivers, running backs, and offensive line. The real measurements are the physical and mental tools. Fields was wildly inaccurate in games, and doesn't show the arm talent we saw out of Lawrence or Wilson.

I am not sure why you would consider Rosen or Kizer mediocre in college.

More over, if you were to pick quarterback from the 2018 NFL draft, which one would you select? Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield, or Sam Darnold? Josh Allen never produced more than a 56% completion percentage in college and his passer efficiency rating declined from year one to year two.

I'm hoping NE moves up and takes Zach Wilson. If BB doesn't address the QB situation this draft, hope he likes swimming in the Charles River
