Ten years ago, we had 12 quarterbacks drafted.

1. Cam Newton - 1st round, 1st overall pick, Carolina Panthers
2. Jake Locker - 1st round, 8th overall pick, Tennessee Titans
3. Blaine Gabbert - 1st round, 10th overall pick, Jacksonville Jaguars
4. Christian Ponder - 1st round, 12th overall pick, Minnesota Vikings
5. Andy Dalton - 2nd round, 35th overall pick, Cincinnati Bengals
6. Colin Kaepernick - 2nd round, 36th overall pick, San Fran 49ers
7. Ryan Mallet - 3rd round, 74th overall pick, New England Patriots
8. Ricky Stanzi - 5th round, 135th overall pick, Kansas City Chiefs
9. T.J Yates - 5th round, 152nd overall pick, Houston Texans
10. Nathan Enderle - 5th round, 160th overall pick, Chicago Bears
11. Tyrod Taylor - 6th round, 180th overall pick, Baltimore Ravens
12. Greg McElroy - 7th round, 208th overall pick, New York Jets

Newton, Dalton, Kaepernick, and Taylor ended up being hits.

Locker, Gabbert and Ponder were bombs.

Yates backed up Matt Leinart and Matt Schaub, and started two playoff games.

Taylor started three seasons for the Buffalo Bills, and helped them end their 17 season playoff drought. Since then, he's been a backup and placeholder quarterback.

Lets not worry about Mallett, Stanzi, Enderle, and McElroy. Rank the other 8 quarterbacks.

Yikes.

1. Cam. He had that one SB/MVP, wasted his running prowess on his youth, still has some potential but regardless he had a decent career.

2. Kaepernick. A play away from a ring on a stacked team. League figured him out and he had no counter. Fizzled out of the league and became an activist.

3. Dalton. Had a good career but was never great enough for the playoffs. There was a game against the Chargers where Aj green dropped a deep pass and that probably cost them that game.

4. Taylor. Solid stopgap QB. Someone you want to replace.

5. Locker. He could run. Was never accurate.

6. Gabbert
7. Ponder
8. Yates

Pretty good list. I agree with said order. Newton was the only successful 1st round QB of the bunch. And now, he's back with his original team after playing for the Patriots. My next post will be about the best players of the 2011 NFL Draft.

1. Cam. He has had a decent career with an MVP and a SB appearance but it's fizzled out for the most part because he can't take over games with his pure athleticism anymore.
2. Dalton. Never able to perform under the bright spotlight of the play-offs but has had a solid career on some pretty good Bengals teams.
3. Kaepernick. Big splash early on and could well have a SB ring but it never happened and when he got figured out, he was nothing special.
4. Taylor. As said, a solid placeholder, stopgap, backup or whatever but never amounted to much more.
After that, I don't really care. The rest are trash.
As @Clayton said, yikes. But that can be said for the majority of QB draft classes, I think. Teams are always looking for that next great one but rarely find it and when they do get a keeper, rarely do they build the roster properly around him.

The big thing about the class is that this was the first one with the new rookie scale. I think this was a major motivator as to why Ponder and Gabbert were first rounders. Teams overreacted to how cheap qbs were imo. Locker was probably always going rd1 because he was over praised coming out of college.

Remember, Krappernick was benched for Blaine Gabbert. Not that Gabbert was worth anything, but really, he's what was available.

Gabbert is the only Super Bowl champion that I see.

Not sure on the bottom part of the list since I dont know who some are.
but top half is solid.
Might put Mallett ahead of Locker due to cost of the team, but that would be splitting hairs.
Newton & Dalton were the only capable starters worthy of arguing one way or the other.
Taylor guaranteed 3rd.
Probably Kaep 4th due to right place right time.
Otherwise you could argue Gabbert ahead of him.

If you would like to skip all I just wrote. In short Not a bad list!

I play enough Madden that I’m familiar with the names on the list, but definitely had to look up what those bottom of the list guys did.

Thought Stanzi played at some point, but turns out he never played a regular season snap of NFL ball.

Thought about just putting Stanzi and Enderle at tied for 11, but just ranked them 11 and 12 just for list consistency.

Put Mallett over Locker probably because of recency bias. Mallett was just playing in the spring league this year.

Wasnt Locker a top ten pick or some shit IIRC?
To me that would put Mallett ahead (going off memory so could be completely wrong!)

Went 8th to the Titans. Basically Tim Tebow without all the hype that Tim Tebow got. QB built like a FB that was more athleticism than arm.

Injuries really derailed any chances he had at developing into anything. Nagging shoulder injuries if I recall. There’s a good breakdown of his career and why he retired on YouTube.

so I guess our opinions differ.
I think missing on a 1st rd is a huge detriment. (especially top ten) vs. Mallett, but all in all. I liked your list. Even with that. I acknowledged I was splitting hairs :thumb:

When the Vikings picked him, I yelled "NO!" slammed my beer and went outside of the restaurant that I was at to chain smoke 3 cigarettes. My friends were all stunned, except the one Packer fan at the table that was laughing his ass off at us.

If I were Zygi Wilf It would have gone "The Minnesota Vikings select, Christian Pon-" "You're FIRED!" to Spielman.
