He brought up a very big point.

"The Rangers, according to a certain line of thought, are making the same mistakes they made the past few years. They aren’t picking a path, choosing to either compete or to rebuild, but instead are taking half-measures and not committing to a plan."

They have shown a lack of ability to pick a plan and go all out with that plan for about seven years now. That has presented itself in several areas including managerial, system coaches, developmental philosophies, and drafting philosophies. It has shown itself in many other areas as well. Going back even further the organizational plan included Greenberg and Ryan and that changed drastically too.

Really the Lowe trade is the only real one that goes against a full tear down but obviously they have a lot of player control on this one and thought of him more highly than the lower level prospects.
I would not be surprised if they traded LeClerc and even Gallo.
As I have stated before sometimes business decisions have superseded baseball decisions whether I like it or not

Several areas— lol broad area of criticisms without too much specific that relates to this article.
Whether they fully break it down or not still a tough time to be a Ranger fan

It will be great to be a Rangers fan even in a rebuild, if they do it right. That means even if they manage to get into a WC race in 2021 or 2022 that they will not trade away prospects for immediate help. It means that the upcoming draft has to be a very good draft and the same could be said for the draft after that. It means they have to start spending big in free agency a year from now and continue that a year later. It means they have to be really through giving Odor chances. It means they have to be ready to take their lumps for a year or two with young prospect hitters and pitchers. It means they have to develop a whole lot better than they have been.

If, and that is a huge "if," those things happen, then these next couple of years can be a great time to be a fan.

That would be encouraging

We do have some on this board that want to pick up players instead of just letting young guys get some time while other work on their game in the minors.

We imho should dedicate 2021 to playing and evaluating our young guys. Giving to many away for FA when we have know chance contending would be a huge mistake. Let them play.

agree......evaluate our young kids. Tell odor and Elvis to take a seat. Who cares about how many games we win. Just focus on development and hopefully identify pieces for the long term.

You can tell by my earlier post that you replied to I am all in on rebuilding. Let's continue to stock up our minor league talent with hopes in 2-3 years it pays off. This happened with the Astros as they took a beating for a few years. When the time is right use some of that excess minor league talent to acquire the pieces needed to complete a title contending team.

Literally from our last game I spoke up for starting our kids like Jung, Huff, Tejeda, Taveras etc and got blasted by several regulars for wanting to rush them. After multiple reproaches I simply gave up and decided to play the divided game where we waste millions on FA players who really have no value to the franchise with little possibility of return value

I have been wanting to rebuild the thing for 7 years, so I am all for the plan if they stick to it. I would have rather they hadn't have signed Alihara myself. I would rather see guys like Allard, Palumbo, Hearn, Phillips, and some others get starts this year so we can find out what they have before the really good pitching prospects arrive.

I do know that you were the first to be on board for rebuilding.

I think the thought was to protect the arms from overuse especially in a virus shortened season. The young guys simply can not put up the number of innings required as a normal starter.
Wonder which pitcher will and is able to get 200 innings.
You can stick a young starter out there but if he can't go long you tax a bullpen. Thought is some progression is needed for young starters to build up their strength

Is this not the outlook for the Rangers at this point? Definitely has not been in the past adding pieces but this year it does to me look like they are doing this. Even if we add a one year guy at 3B, we may flip him for prospects.

I don't have a problem runing them out there for six weeks and then backing them off for a little while and bringing in a new batch. Then reversing that a few weeks later.

If they would allow for expanded rosters or a pitching taxi squad they could piggy back starters for awhile and go with a tandem approach.

It looks like a lot of free agents are going to have to settle for a one year deal.

I did not understand signing Alihara either if we are truly rebuilding. No need since we have plenty of young pitchers needing work.

Well might lose a bit of time for player control and player options but hey maybe we move the pitcher at break. We do have room for one more player. But from a roster perspective I just don't see all the piggyback and back and forth from AAA due to protecting arms. However definitely the young guys need the work and assessment. How this is done will be interesting.

I am definitely not for blocking any legitimate player who needs abs or pitching reps at the MLB level.
Watch it all be a nonissue once little injuries to the pitching staff sets in place

I feel the team probably needs 10 SP options. With injuries and performance issues.
They will probably add 2 more SP before the off-season is over.. no one fancy.. but guys that can eat innings..

The question of how many innings they can safely pitch is a legitimate one that will need to be addressed. That is true for veterans as well. Of course, if they pitched in enough simulated innings in 2020 that could be a non-factor.
