Pace will forever be the guy that moved up one spot to take Trubisky over Mahomes.

He's also the guy that drafted Kevin White. And signed Mike Glennon. And Robert Quinn. And neglected the offensive line because he thought Leno and Massie were legit NFL tackles. He's the guy that traded for Nick Foles.

He's that guy too. He's the guy that has never used a high draft pick on an offensive tackle and drafted Leonard Floyd 9th overall.

Used a 2nd round pick on Shaheen. The guy that, despite having 9 picks in the 2016 draft and nothing on the roster that resembled a real NFL QB, he selected exactly 0 QBs.

When you look at the whole picture...the misses outweigh the hits.

Meh, not so sure about that. Pace took over a pretty bad team that had, for years, been signing free agents to patch holes caused by horrible drafting. At least with Pace we have some good young talent acquired in the draft but it doesn't show up a whole lot in point differential. We've had a negative point differential every year of his career year except for 2018 which was a big +138. Last year was -18 and this year is -9.

He's been solid at grabbing talent through the draft but yea, some big misses and ignoring of certain positions leads to a mediocre resume at best.

Most GMs take over bad teams....that's why people get fired. He was hired to improve the team...we've seen the playoffs once in his time.

Of course they do but some GMs actually inherit talent. Look at who Pace inherited and the almost complete lack of young talent to build with. On top of that, the culture was rather poisoned by guys like Marshall. All that said I still think Pace has shit the bed. Signing Quinn to big money while ignoring the offensive line has been the downfall of this team. Imagine if that money was put into the O line instead and we just leaned more on guys like Mingo and Edwards (like we have anyway): we could easily have a couple more wins right now on that alone.

The Trubisky pick is obviously the big one. If he's just average than we might have won the superbowl in 2018. Taking a QB and missing is spells almost certain death, even if you do manage to draft pro-bowl caliber guys all over the defense with non-first round picks.

Another way to look at it: what prospective GM wouldn't want to take this team on? You've got young pro-bowl caliber players on every level of the defense: Eddie Jackson, Jaylon Johnson, Roquan Smith, Eddie Goldman and maybe Bilal Nichols. You've got some nice young pieces on offense in Kmet, Mooney and Montgomery. You've got some veteran studs in Hicks, Mack, Robinson (maybe) and Fuller to either keep on or trade. You might even have a young, solid interior line in place with Daniels/Mustipher/Whitehair. Yes there's work to do with the tackles, QB and filling in holes here and there but there's plenty of talent to work with here. The cupboard is far from bare and that speaks to Pace's general draft acumen.

I said he's not an elite every down back.

He has every skillset to be elite, except for a gay coach and his gay little scheme. Can't be elite when you're sharing carries with Taquan Mizzell,
(I know they didn't play together, but stated for point) and getting 11 carries in a game that was 30-7 at halftime.

I like the kid. I would focus my offense around him. Particularly with the team we have right now. Trubisky can be VERY effective and dangerous when they got a team on their heels. This kid can do that. Get him in space, if the traditional running game isn't working, but get him the damn ball. If he's clicking, it opens everything else up, which is the ultimate helper for an average QB.

Give this team to Mike Vrabel and they are every bit as good as Tennessee, likely better, IMHumbleO.

Tennessee has a good offensive line but otherwise, yea, our defense is better than theirs.

I'm a big Montgomery fan. The dude has been hit behind the LOS on probably at least a third of his NFL carries. It's staggering to me how people can't see the talent he has. He's also very patient a la Pittsburgh Le'Veon Bell.

Assuming we finish 7-9 or so, I'd pass on a QB of the future in the first and just load up on offensive line. Get this guy some room to run and he'll make things easier on a Nick Foles or whoever is back there enough for this defense to get one more shot at it, if that's the direction we want to go. If not, I'd still invest in the O line, trade our stud vets for picks and still make Montgomery the focal point on offense.

That's revisionist horseshit.

Trestman and his "everyone needs to be happy" culture is what ruined the locker room. He was okay with players not practicing hard. And it pissed off the veterans on the team.

I think he could be a pretty good back in this league. But he doesn't have the physical talent of an elite back.

Which is totally fine....you don't need an elite back to win a SB.

Trestman was a wiener but you can't deny Marshall poisoned locker rooms, otherwise the Broncos, Dolphins and Bears would have never traded him for as little as they did and then the Jets wouldn't have cut him.

I guess that's another plus for Pace. He's always prioritized high character guys and that's what we've got. It doesn't give him a pass but like I said, i consider Pace's resume here to be mediocre. If he hit on Trubisky then things would like drastically different and we'd be hailing him as a top 5 GM but such is the NFL.

Collectively, Bears fans are Charlie Brown trying to kick a football...thinking Lucy isn't gonna pull it away. And falling on their ass. Over and over.

I can deny it. He was a little bitch at times but he was never a poison. And his production outweighed his issues.

Making the playoffs once in 6 years is mediocre to you.

That's special.

Most people consider it bad.

No it didn't, otherwise the Broncos, Dolphins and Bears would have kept him. It was pretty much universally accepted that Marshall had to go and that was one of the first things Pace did after he took over, rightfully so.

I don't really count those first two years. The roster needed to be completely turned over and that's what hiring John Fox was all about. Fox wasn't a great coach but he was a high character guy who did things the right way and empowered his assistant coaches. He helped turn the culture around. No one in their right mind could or should expect that team to make the playoffs.

Pace did a great job putting that 2018 team together that under performed in the playoffs and of course the Parkey miss. From there it's fallen apart, again, all centering around Trubisky not turning out. If Trubisky took a similar progression to DeShaun Watson then the O line issues wouldn't have been as noticeable as they were in 2019 and the Bears probably easily make the playoffs again as a result. Coming into this year, the miss on Trubisky forced Pace to go get another QB, then he made the mistake of neglecting the offensive line again for a bust signing of Robert Quinn. The failure of the O line has been the critical personnel issue this year and that's on Pace.

This team with an average QB is an easy perennial playoff team because of all the talent Pace has acquired, so once again I come back to the miss on Trubisky. I'm not saying he should get a pass for that, just giving him recognition for the things he has done well. As a GM, when you take a QB in the top of the first, you're basically attaching your career to that QB's and that's why Pace is likely to see himself out of a job here soon.

The Broncos traded him because McDaniels was an idiot.

Pace traded Marshall but not Martellus Bennett despite Bennett being known to forget plays in the huddle, being late for practice, and generally being lazy and distant from teammates.

So all that accountability stuff....is crap.

Oh good.

Here I thought all years counted. I was being silly.

I'm gonna bow out of this conversation because the fucktardedness has reached levels I can't cope with.

First two years didn't count.

Would be a genius if Trubisky was better.

I just want to go on record as saying that Jerry Angelo would have been the best NFL executive ever had Rex, Jay, or Kyle Orton worked out. Just needed 1 of the 3 to hit...and he'd be Hall of Fame.
