It wasn't an automatic challenge.

Automatic in the sense that every good coach challenges there. The Refs were about to wind the clock after stopping it to sort out the scrum. So Arizona was forced to call a time out there. If you are going to call a timeout, you might as well challenge. That is why the challenge flag came out almost immediately before we had seen more than a single replay.
