Sorry fellas, fighting shouldn't be a part of the game anymore. Not saying that's the only thing that led to this condition in Boogaard, but it merely creates another avenue for micro-trauma to occur to the brain. This is just sad. And keep in mind depression is a factor in this injury as well.

I think that eloco and maybe even ritari were somewhat against fighting as well. It seems to be a Caps, Pens thing.

Hey guys, for those of you who have HBO there was an amazing 12 minute long clip abotu the 3 past deaths and how fighting made their impact. They got some past enforcers, and they straight up said theyd be terrified to go into the next game knowing they had to fight some huge guy, and as a result resorted to drugs and alcohol.

Thought I'd share.


But wow, this is sad. I wouldve said earlier it needs to say, you dont take something like that out of the game. Reading this though...yikes.

I don't think the Boogeyman could get all the way up to the letter R when singing his ABC's at any point in his life so I conclude we strike this evidence from the record.

All the players that had offseason issues were "enforcers". I'd guess a good percentage of the people with off ice issues like this were "enforcers". I don't think fighting is the issue so much as it is guys making the NHL by knowing they have to fight. If all of those guys are taught to play first and fight only when necessary, they probably get in 75% (obviously no studies were done by me, and this is a guess, but you get the picture) less fights over their careers. They also don't have that "I'm only an enforcer I'm not a realy team member" mentality.

I say get rid of "enforcers" and players who clearly only belong on an NHL team due to fisticuffs and KEEP fighting in the NHL. If you get rid of fighting, I hope you like watching more and more Matt Cooke type players in the NHL blowing up your teams best player.

My vote? Get rid of Enforcers and get rid of the Instigator penalty.

How about one of the ways they can stop players from fighting is to flick the lights on and off very fast in the Arena?
