And no other team is giving him a 6 year $200M contract either. Dak better be real careful how he plays this. If he draws a line in the sand and the Cowboys call his bluff he could be out millions...
I believe what I'm hearing out of the few whispers, that Dak's camp wants short contracts. Its not what the FO wants, and that is the main issue holding this up, not the cash but the years. I think the middle ground will be a 5 year deal, with the Cowboys waive using the tags on him to get that extra 5th year on our terms.

heard something interesting with regards to Mahomes next contract which may have a bearing on the Dak holdup. They said Mahomes and maybe Watson may seek a percentage, like 18% of the cap over a 5 year term. They said with the projected cap going higher each year, his contract would start at 36M (if it started this coming year) and go up each year to a 5th year amount of around 53M. They said this type of contract may be the future for your franchise type QB. With that said, this may be the number one reason why Dak's team is seeking a shorter type deal.

If that is the risk he wants to take, I'd love to give him a one or two year deal and make him earn his next contract again and I'd draft a QB during that time too to see if we ca nluck out and find a cheaper replacement and not have to resign Dak for $40M per in 2 years. If he doesn't want to commit that goes both ways. It protects the team if he gets injured or his level of play drops and they now wouldn't be cap crushed for 6 years. Dak is not being smart here. Take your $150-$200M+ and have yourself, your kids and your grand kids, etc all set for life. Who the Hell cares about an extra $5M a few years down the road when the offset is possibly losing $100M. I hope the team is getting ready to play hard ball here. He is good but he isn't an elite QB. He is no better than Goff and Wentz. The more you hear, the more it is clear that Dak is out for just Dak. Which again, is fine, but let's not pretend it isn't the case and that means the team needs to look out for itself too.

Now that he has been tagged, I think it's possible this is Daks last year here. If he isn't signed before the Mahomes deal, hes gone

I wouldn't relate this to Cousins. I think most expected this. I still think Dak gets a contract in Dallas when it's all said & done

I think they could get something done soon as next week, but the problem as I see it is, once the new CBA goes into effect and the 17th game is added, and the knowledge that the cap will jump another $30-40 million over the next 5 years, that is only gonna drive up the number. If KC decides to go ahead and give Mahomes his $40 million per, this agent of Dak's(and Dak himself) are going to go by the next in line goes up theory and ask for $41 million per. If they weren't going by that plan, he would have accepted the deal on the table already. Jerry is smart enough to know this. He also know's that a 2nd franchise tag would cost him $37 million next year, so if he were willing to give him $37 for next season, why not pay him $36 million now and be done with it? If he is tagged next near and makes $37, the number for a contract would start at $40 million. I think Jerry realizes they have screwed this up and I think Dak signs for $36 per in the next week or two.

Really stupid they did not get this deal done with Dak . But I am no cap expert. I think the other big moves need to be Quinn,Amari and Cobb. Quinn was ferocious last season and showing no sign of slowing down. Wanted us to draft Quinn out of North Carolina so I guess I am biased. Cobb had some huge plays last year and would have had even better numbers if it had not been for goodell's crooked refs . Just get Amari done

I am ok with just giving the shorter deal to Dak. This impasse only hurts the teams cap by dragging out any further Dak made peanuts at least contract wise so far.. Not sure what he made with endorsements.

Right at $50 million per year in endorsements. I think that is a bit of leverage for the Cowboys when it gets to the end game. He's not making anywhere near that in endorsements as QB of the Bucs

What if the cba results in us not being able to tag both Dak and Amari and we lose Coop? The guy Dak was before Coop got here isn't a $40 million guy
Cooper led the team in dropped passes last season.

I wonder how many solid football observations you've had in your plus 78 thousands posts. It seems to me you're like a broken clock with regards to the correct time in a 24 hour period
Instead of criticizing my posts why don't you make a comment regarding the subject matter on this thread? I must be in your head 24/7.

Dak really overplaying his hand for a guy who needs a great line, great RB, hall of fame tight end, and top receiver to excel and still struggles versus good teams and defenses. He currently works in a state with no income tax and works for team that gets hurt endorsement deals that he would not get elsewhere. He is on the cusp of being paid like a top 5 QB even though most of us would likely take 10 NFL QBs above him headed into next year. He had a great narrative as a team first guy and he may now blow it for what a few million dollars a year that he would more than make up for with less state income taxes and more endorsements. If we wants to win, then take the over 100 million being offered and run. Ridiculous for a guy with a horrible record versus winning teams since 2016 and who has only won one playoff game and missed playoffs a couple of times in his 4 years with us and had a HC run out of town.

An excellent post and I agree with your assessment. Dak was terrible versus teams with winning records. I guess you and I are in the minority regarding Dak.

now was Dak horrible vs. winning teams? or was it the Cowboys were horrible vs. Winning teams? There is a difference.

Dak is the one wanting the biggest contract.

this isnt about worth? No player is worth the money they get at top QB money. However that is the market.
Dak will get his 35 mil. & over 112 in guarantees. This I know.
Thing of it is. I cant complain even though I would love to have him for 30-33 mil.
Not just Dak but all football players should always go after all they can in their 2nd contract. (1st after the rookie contract)
That is what most of them have played their entire lives for. They play college (allegedly) for free. That is 4+ years. Some have played football since about 7 to get to this point. They finally get to a point they get to have some say in what they get paid after decades of work & then get asked to take a discount &/or lose that control? As much as I hate it. All football players should play hardball with their 2nd contract. get all they can.

Now 3rd contracts depending on the players. Then you might want to start looking at your legacy vs. just getting all you can.

that really doesnt answer my question.

BTW
OUR OT, G, C, RB, DE at one point our WR, Currently our CB all want their own best contracts for position. So that statement still goes to the Cowboys if they were playing horrible.

Now was Dak the reason we lost to winning teams or was it the team? I ask again.
