I'll just lump off-season and season thread into one.

Going into off season we have few interesting decisions starting with:

OC/DC. I'm guessing they look internally, but we're once again looking for a new OC. Kubiak seems to be popular choice, but wouldn't be surprised at younger Kubiak getting job

DC-We'll see. Zim is D play caller, so this job is more of a fact checker and helper

The 2019 Vikings were also veteran laden team. We're scheduled to be over cap, and decisions will need to be made on: (cap numbers I used found here Minnesota Vikings Salary Cap | Over the Cap)

Everson Griffen: Had a nice year, but it'll be tough to pay him 13.1 Million. If we could restructure that would be great

Reiff: Cap savings would be 8.8 million. He's been adequate, but paid to be better. Another candidate to restucture, but I wouldn't be hurt if he was cut.

Linval: He's still a force in middle, but father time is catching up. Price tag is also close to 13 million.

Xavier Rhodes: Far too much money for his production. While he'd result in some dead money, I think he needs to be cut

Free agents:

Trae Waynes: Interesting one, I think someone will over pay him, and I'd take the comp pick. But it is tough to go into season with two new starting CB's. Of course if we sign anyone with freed up money, probably wouldn't get a comp pick

Anthony Harris: He's the guy that should be priority to resign

M Alexander: I'd like him back, especially with my scenario of Rhodes/Waynes gone

Weatherly: If he'll agree to reasonable deal, I'd bring him back

Let the rest walk or bring back on small deals.

And time to start talking Cook Extension

Off season priority: Fix secondary, find an upgrade at DT, and fix left side of OL (both LT/LG)

I don't follow mock drafts much anymore, but I checked out few today

2020 NFL Mock Draft: Round 1 - Picks 17-32

vikingsb_logo.gif
Minnesota Vikings: Justin Madubuike, DT, Texas A&M
TexasAM_logo.gif

Linval Joseph is still a dominant presence in the interior, but he'll turn 32 next season. He'll decline soon, and the Vikings could use some help next to him in the meantime.

Justin Madubuike was a disruptive force in the interior of the Aggies' defensive line this past season, logging 11.5 TFLs and 5.5 sacks.

vikingsb_logo.gif
Minnesota Vikings: Kenny Willekes, DE, Michigan State
MichiganState_logo.gif

The Vikings could stand to add another edge rusher behind their two talented starters.

vikingsb_logo.gif
Minnesota Vikings: Paddy Fisher, LB, Northwestern
Northwestern_logo.gif

The Vikings struggle to cover in space outside of Eric Kendricks, so I expect that issue to be prevalent this season. Perhaps they'll finally upgrade their linebacking corps.

vikingsb_logo.gif
Minnesota Vikings: Trishton Jackson, WR, Syracuse
Syracuse_logo.gif

The Vikings could stand to add another receiver to go along with Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. Finding someone to play on the outside so that Thielen could move back to the slot would be ideal.

DT, DE, LB, and WR

I don't see us ignoring secondary in top 4 rounds.

But I do see them ignoring the offensive line until the late...late...late rounds.

2020 NFL Mock Draft | Round 1-A

Last week, we selected Mekhi Becton for the Vikings in this spot. This week we find a more athletic lineman in Josh Jones. The reason for an Offensive Tackle is that Riley Reiff is 31 years old and has a $13,200,000 cap hit. The Vikings are $10,184,514 over the cap for 2020 right now. They need to make moves to get under the cap, sign some of their own free agents, and be able to fit their draft picks under the cap. It is easy to see how Reiff could become a cap casualty this offseason. His cap hit in 2021 is $13.95M. It is highly unlikely he plays 2021 under his current contract.

Josh Jones is 6'5" 311 with 33 5/8" arms and 10 1/8" hands. He has a background as a high school basketball player and has been the Cougars' full-time starter at Left Tackle from his redshirt freshman season. Jones has held down the post for four years now in Houston, missing just two games in that span. He allowed only 18 pressures in 1,282 pass-blocking snaps over three years. Jones' 93.2 percent grade was the second-highest among tackles this season, according to Pro Football Focus. It was the best grade ever given to an Offensive Tackle outside the so-called Power Five.

Jones had an excellent week at the Senior Bowl which will definitely raise his draft stock even more. The Vikings would be lucky to see him available at the #25 position. They're sitting in prime poaching territory; don't be surprised to see a team moving up from the 2nd round and offering the Bills or Patriots a bevy of picks to move up and snag Jones.

Jordan Love is a quarterback that oozes tons of potential, a huge arm, and the ability to escape the pocket. According to PFF, Love only had 15.5% of his dropbacks result in a sack.

In 2018, Love threw for 3,567 yards, completed 64 percent of his attempts and finished with 32 touchdowns and just six interceptions. This season, he completed 61 percent of his passes for 3,085 yards while throwing 17 touchdowns against 16 INTs, although he lost his top three weapons.

Love is a boom-or-bust prospect, but his potential is too great to pass even if the Vikings extend Cousins.

Roll one more year with Zimmer and Cousins, et al...

then blow it all up.

It's a good, not great team, and certainly not championship caliber.

Thing is IMO they aren't far from a Championship caliber team, a couple corners, couple offensive linemen a good defensive tackle and bam they got as good a shot as anybody.

Letting Cousins go before he's physically washed up would be a huge mistake. It or not, if he kept roughly his current pace with the team for 5+ more years, he'd easily be a top 2 QB in franchise history. This team is snake bitten when it comes to finding QB's, so let's just be real there. Especially after Cousins proved he could show up in that New Orleans playoff game.

Zim, I can do without if he fails again. Time and time again we've been told he's one of the best HC's in the league, and since 2014, we have 2 playoff wins to show for it - 1 that required a last second historical miracle pass to win, and the second which required Kirk Cousins growing a set of testicles in overtime to win. Not as impressive of a resume as the numbers might make it seem.

There's just no way we can pay Cousins the money he's going to ask for, we could go 9 - 7 or 10 - 6 with someone much less expensive. If it were up to me he would be traded on or just before draft day. Why have a lame duck QB.

Everson Griffen opted out of his contract...

productive, and still effective....

hope he re-signs at a lower cost.

Opting out was a huge mistake on his part.

Not if he wants to remain a Viking. They would've probably cut him for cap space. Now he can re-sign for less.
