What part of why not just let them cut him, they might have tried to trade him which would have made him more money don't you understand? If he opts out he guarantees he will make less going forward, but he might get offered more from someone else, I hope he does, he's not worth the money going forward.

Explain to me what he gained by opting out???

A) Vikings probably would've found it difficult to find a trading partner.
B) Getting cut would leave dead space in the Vikings cap, though not as hefty as the original salary, and remove almost all possibility of returning.
C) By opting out, it relieves the Vikings of some of that dead space.
D) He may find a limited market for his services.
E) Knowing he was probably going to be cut, he now has more options available to him.
F) You love me.
