Who do you think will be better Gibson or Hamels
I feel. better about Gibson than some. I will lean towards him, but it will probably be close. I think both of them would have a better ERA with us in 2020 than Wheeler would have.

Gibson has to be healthy and at full strength though.

I would like to see this. Looks awesome.

im glad we didn’t get hamels. I thought he underperformed while he was here. Hamels was billed as an ace, but he never really pitched like one for us. Especially in the playoffs.
He did and I never wanted him at the time. We would have been signing him for a 4th starter though.

I feel better about Gibson based on the contract he received

I would've been good with Hamels at 18 million

Minor/Lynn/Hamels/Gibson/young guy reinforcements would be a lot better than we've rolled out in a while

I'm going to assume the Rangers are going to make every effort to move Choo. And honestly, I don't understand why there isn't a fairly strong market for him. He hits for a decent average, has decent power, gets on base via walks/being hit with the best of them, etc............We'll have to eat some salary of course, but he really needs to be gone this year.

I'm all for Santana in CF and putting Gallo in right, with Calhoun in left. Mazara's the odd man out here and quite frankly, I don't know what I would even suggest about him. I don't think there's much of a market for him......Maybe he can play a little 1st, but I'm not sure of that.
I would be willing to hang onto Maz for another year.

You do tend to either ignore or forget what was said about a subject recently. Then when you do try to recall, you misrepresent what I said, like saying I wanted a cheaper pitcher than Minor to replace him with.
Okay I accept this. You want short term decent to good SP. We differ in that I want good to quality SP and am willing to go with longer term deals than 2 or 3 years. Minor is in the last year of his deal and in my book we ride him to the trade deadline and then deal him moving one of our young arms into his slot. Then we could carry Lynn into the 2020-21 off-season or even to the 2021 and trade him moving another young arm into the rotation.
I think we need a #1 to build a quality rotation around utilizing our stockpile of prospects as the main source

If there was a really good free agent pitcher available for 5 years and we could pay an AAV of $30 million to, I would not necessarily be against that. I would not want to give nearly that much for one with the track record of Wheeler though. It would also depend on his age and where we were as an organization.
2 years ago we would have had no business doing even that.

I totally agree with whatever cash it takes to get it done but I am trying to be realistic about the chance of that happening

It is realistic and this is LITERALLY a thread for talking about what you would LIKE the team to do...

If I were the Rangers I would be all over trying to move Choo and eating at least half of his contract actively except for that damn no-trade clause. He has to be willing to even allow the Rangers to discuss with other teams. I would tell him we are either going to bench you or even release you this coming season so you and your agent make the calls and find a team or accept what we are going to do.
And the same holds true for Odor, in my book, I offer him and $18M stretched over 3 years to any team willing to take him. Hell I would even throw in 2 or 3 horses to say good bye to him

I think this helps us get Rendon

Wheeler to Philly. So we don't have to worry about him. I still wanted Cole over any of FA pitchers. Not crazy about the length of contract it would take to get him but 5 years 30 to 32M AAV isn't going to get him. It would take at least 7 years and at minimum $245M to even get the Rangers into the party and with Rendon probably at or near those same numbers don't see us in on Cole.

Who else, meaning a RHP, is available?

I'm not sure we would have to eat salary to get rid of him. For sure if we want to trade him for something beneficial. But if just getting him off the books, there will be some AL team looking for a leadoff DH that can spell the OF if needed. Best case might be to sit on him until the deadline though. Then you are trading with a contender and already covered half the salary. A high OBP guy for $10M in the playoff run...we could get something for him.

Allard gets my vote to open the season with the team. With HMels gone whom would sign
