@Peter Gozintite @mcnabb7542 @unlvmariners

Why the hell is Sanchez still the Rebels coach? 17-34 in his 5th year. When will UNLV figure out just because he had success @ Gorman that doesn't mean he knows what he's doing on the college level? And his record shows it. He'll never be the coach to turn them around.

Odd they fired Menzies before he could properly clean up Rice's mess yet they don't seem to have a problem with how lousy of a coach Sanchez is.

They’ve never pushed the football program like they do with the basketball program

Very true. But that might change once the Raiders get to Vegas & UNLV plays their home games in that new stadium.

Short answer....He brought the money from the Fertittas, that own station casinos and sold UFC. He got the 20 million for the practice facility.

Thanks for the info. I still would like to see a coach that's had some kind of coaching success take the program over once they get into the new stadium though.

Its never been coaching. Its always been talent. Give him one more year, see if the new f
Practice facility, and new stadium helps that.

If UNLV could get a better coach with some coaching success the Rebels would be able to get better players.

Wrong. If youre recruiting an 18 yo kid, and he has other options, he comes here and there was no real practice facility, no football study hall, and the stadium is a dilapidated shit hole, thats 30 miles off campus, he isnt coming here. Remember when Jon Robinson came here? He was a great coach at many levels, and could not get talent.
Now when you bring kids in, they have a state of the art new practice facility, as good or comparable, to anyone in the country, and they will be playing in an NFL stadium, on the Las Vegas Strip, that will make an immediate impact on talent. Its not like it used to be. Kids want to see a fucking barber shop, and bad ass facility. I say one more year, no matter what. He was, at least, partially responsible for the new practice place. He deserves the chance to use it. He has already been told he is on the hot seat by the AD, so he may not get that, but I ask you, WTF is going to come to UNLV? What coach out there is going to come here and make less than he would as a coordinator? no one. This is the same tired cycle that has been going on for decades. Same with basketball. We suck and everyone blames the coaches. Its just not that simple. If you pay a coach 300k a year, and everyone screams that we should go and get a guy that makes 800k to 2 mil a year, how is that going to work out? Its not. If football takes off, like I expect it will, for the first time in 30 years, the money will start to roll in. Then we can talk about changing/upgrading coaches. Until then, we need to stay in out lane, and understand what we are. A small time program in a shit conference.
Now, if we can just be patient for another year or two, things cna change dramatically. I can even forsee us getting into another conference. possibly pac12. then we will see TV money too. Right now though, wait and see is all we have.

I'm wrong in saying a coach with previous coaching success wouldn't have an upper hand compared to Sanchez? If you were a potential recruit & Sanchez comes knocking on your door compared to hell I don't know, say Bob Stoops who'd you rather play for? A proven coach with a national championship & countless NFL drafts picks & so on or the other guy?

What might interest a coach with some success could be playing home games in that new stadium.

Like you said he deserves the opportuniy to have access to the new facilities though. But if he can't turn things around say by year 3 that would be 8 years without a winning record.

Ok, no offense man, you think Stoops is going to work for 300 to 400k? He is NOT

Hell no he's not. If the school wants the football program to be competitive they'll have to spend some money on a coach. But if not then they'll stay right where they are.

I still think they can land the recruits based on where they are located, not only in town but AZ, Cali there are kids that don’t have the grades or get screwed over from other programs that could be easy pickings for a coach that has a staff that can recruit their Ass off! Yes the facility does matter, so does the concept of offensive and defensive strategy matching the talent you have in house now! You adjust and work with what you have...

Just my two cents

We dont have TV money, our football program costs the university money to run, and our budget is upside down as it is. its not that simple.

Maybe they should remove the program....Not to sound cold ( or piss off my relatives that attend home games)
but if they can't afford it or find boosters willing to pony up some cash and keep the program clean then shut it down and put money else where.

Ok, its not that simple either. Then what? Have no conference either. Join the fucking christian basketball conference? Its not about boosters, the boosters just coughed up over 20 mil for the practice facility. Actually one booster did that, and another 20 mil from the others. If you arent in a p5 conference though, you dont have the annual tv money. Period, no tampon.
These fuckers get 10s of millions of dollars from tv ALONE. I am trying to get you guys to understand that this could change. There is a possibility that with the new stadium, where the pac12 is already going to have their champ game, we could gain some huge notoriety. I know its been completely fucked forever, but thingS are changing here. We are an actual pro sports town now, and although people thought that would hurt unlv, it has had a possitive impact.
They hung with Northwestern last weekend, and honestly, if not for few stupid penalties (i know coaching) they could have won that game. Nothing is going to change significantly this year. I have not been a huge proponent of the football program before, but I can see it.
I will bet anyone here this. Next season our talent level will be drastically higher. Without a doubt! I am talking major improvements across the board. They will win the mwc championship within the firat 2 seasons in that stadium. We will be trying to get into the pac12 within 2 to 5 years. That part i wont bet on, quite yet.
Its been 50 years of shit football, whats one more? Seriously?

Makes sense and you have a better angle of the way the program is going since you're in town.
