Where did I say he didn’t?
I said if Im investing time and money, Im not happy sucking for a decade.
Im sure they had tons cancel their tickets, but many die hards aren’t giving up their seats, or are upgrading when others leave.
I’m happy for them now, but it doesn’t erase the past.
who said anyhting about sucking for a decade?

I sure didnt. No one has ever said that they would tank for a decade. Usually tanking only occurs for 2- at most 3 seasons.

for you to act like tanking to eventually get good is a decade process is just plain wrong and stupid. At most--- from tearing it down- to winning a playoff series, 5 years.

thats not much longer than the Heats current run of abject mediocrity (put nicely)

I said they haven't been and until they are, they aren't.
At least get to the ECF.
Technically, 16 playoff teams are all contenders by definition, if you want to go there.
I'd say Philly got a little closer than most of the contenders and I believe they'll be improved this season.

Guess what. I'm thinking very possible either or both LA teams are contenders and neither went as far as Philly last season. How about you?

B) Neither the Cavs nor Heat have a shot at a title

Realistically neither did the Raptors at the start of last season. Or any other team not named the Warriors.

To lump both the cavs and Heat together is ridiculous. The Heat are a playoff team with a legit chance to make it past the first round. The cavs will be hitting the lottery for at least the next decade.

What do you consider a long tank. I mean, while not calling it a tank, LA is going into year 7 and have not won a playoff series in that time, correct? And that's as a FA destination.

Would love to get it done sooner, but I don't think 4 years would be too long IMO.
yah no one has ever suggested tanking for a decade

i dont know where he gets that from. Its a total bullshit argument that tanking takes forever

OKC it took them 3-4 years to go from getting Durant to winning playoff series and getting set for the future. It took the Cavs 4 years to go from an absolute bare cabinet to being back in the limelight. It took the Sixers 4 years to go from stripping it all down to nothing to having franchise cornerstones primed for years and years of playoff series wins and contention.

As I said- the Heat right now are in their own 3 year stretch without having won a playoff series- and thats WITH trading away picks, spending all their cap space, trading away young guys for win-now guys, etc......

If the Heat would have torn it all down 3 years ago-- and went into a proper rebuild- which they should have done--- i couldnt imagine where they would be right now.....they would probably have been actual contenders for Kyrie and Durant---instead of a capped out mess that had to trade significant assets to sign a 30 year old asshole to a max contract to become a pseudo contender. and they wouldnt owe 2 future first roundrs- one completely unprotected to Oklahoma City--- and those picks just migiht come back and bite them in the ass in a BIG way.

The Raptors didn't have a shot? I get you don't have it in you to admit your logic is way off base, but they have won a number of playoff series the last few seasons and added Kawhi. That Lebron fellow also left and really that was the only team who they couldn't get past.

You think going into last season Toronto = 2019-20 Miami?

Philly wasnt bad for a decade because they were tanking--- in fact- the only thing that got Philly good again WAS tanking.

Sam Hinkie was a genius. Dont try and put the failure of past GMs on his plate.

if the Heat would have tanked 3 years ago theyd be in MUCH better shape then they are now---

and what would you have missed? zero playoff series wins and less whiteside complaining in the media? LOL

I do like Butler more than you, but otherwise that was spot on....including the fact if done right they could have gotten him for money and not players/picks for a FA who wanted to come to Miami.

Yet nobody picked the Raptors to win the title last year. Nobody! Hell, pretty much nobody gave them a shot when they even reached the Finals.

If nobody predicts a team to win the title, or even have a chance at it, does that make them contenders?

Vegas had them at 40/1. That's worse than the Cavs or Heat last year. Were the Cavs and Heat title contenders last year too?

Opening 2019 NBA title odds feel LeBron effect

It wont open...are you saying Toronto, who added Kawhi and Green, had worse odds than the Cavs without Lebron?

Toronto had won playoff series a few times, right? Went to the ECF once or twice and another time lost as the #1 seed......always to Lebron. But they add Kawhi and no more Lebron and you don't think they have a decent shot to get out of the East (which makes them a contender)?

How about we just stay current?
They suck until they don’t.
Nobody here except Cavs fans gives a flying fuck about about the Cavs or their plan.

There is a Cavs team page.

Maybe move it all over there @trojanfan12, and let them circle jerk each other?

Yep, opening odds had them below both Cleveland and Miami last year. Clearly that number changed as they added Kawhi and progressed during the season but that's beside the point.

And again, NOBODY considered them a contender. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Took longer than most days, but I knew you'd end up smacking yourself around. we have said it will be 3-4 years to complete the rebuild you keep saying let me know when it happens.

OK...you say they'll suck for a decade so I ask the same of you. Tell us after they suck for a decade.

You think odds before Toronto added Kawhi and the Cavs lost Lebron mattered?

As I said, just not in you to admit your logic is off base. You should have, though, as that was even more foolish than anything I could have dreamt up for you.

and i mean, whats "prolonged"? i mean as a Lakers fan you are entering year 7 without a playoff series win I believe.

4 years is definitely not a short amount of time in the NBA- but there are certainly teams that go a lot longer than that without winning --

if the Cavs go from having a pretty bare roster- post LeBron because of the pressure of constantly making win-now moves while LeBron was here for those 4 years------- and in a 4 year time span go from that bare roster---- to being where the Sixers are----- primed to have a winning core that can compete and win playoff series for a 4-6 year stretch-- and have an actual legit shot at getting elite players that can help contend to get to or win a conference final- then it will be well well worth it.

Shit--- in the last 4 years the Heat have won one playoff series and no one has considered them a contender and right now they are capped out with some of the least draft capital in the league. i hardly see how that is desirable.

The Lakers only truly tanked for 2, maybe 3 years. The years prior were Short Buss doing his crap and getting through Kobe's last couple of seasons.

For me, in the NBA, I don't think a tank should be more than about 3 years. 5, if you're team isn't in a "destination city".
