The problem would be that, without the Cavs buying him out, the Lakers don't have the cap space. I'd expect that, for them to spend that money, they'll want a good return. That's not coming from the Lakers. I don't know who the Lakers would be willing to trade that another team would want, that would give the kind of return for the Cavs to spend that

Unless Gilbert wanted to do it as a thank you to Lebron for the title. Lol
That's a good point....even with a 3rd team the Lakers would still have to give up something and what would they give up that anyone would want? Those type of players or assets are all with NO.

Yeah, I can agree with that.

I think it's both.

It hurts the guys that might want to leave.

But, it also forces teams to overpay guys like Wiggins, Crabbe because they aren't exactly a free agent destination.

Yeah, UFAs definitely get overpaid too. No doubt about that.

But if a player is a UFA, the courting team only has to make their offer more attractive than the home team. And there are many ways to do that beyond just money.

To get that player in RFA, the team has to make an offer so outlandish the Bird Right team doesn’t even want to match it.

That is why I think teams often mess up by letting their key role players like Brogdon even get to RFA. Try to Extend them before they have a chance to test the market.

wonderful ...:L

ah well, a team's gotta do what a team's gotta do...

At best he could provide the team with a double double (if healthy) on a regular basis.

At worst he's either injured and still a headcase in which Javale plays the most minutes at C and has Kuz/AD playing other minutes at the 5 depending who they play.

Might have, but that implies another agent would shortchange himself and his client? That if no Klutch Lebron isn't pressuring the Cavs?

I'm sure Lebron would still have pressured them. But I would think it would be easier to apply that pressure with Rich Paul than another agent.

yep...not much different than Cousins but with less upside. Nothing really to lose. If he's a distraction or just sucks they can move on.

If not ending well means I get the boot, while you are doing exactly what you are booting me for it would be the ultimate "oh, the irony".

The fact that you think it's the same is why it won't end well for you.

agreed that'd be how it'd probably play out IF he winds up back here...

just hope he'll play ball and leave the drama...

Fact is you have kicked your own ass and are like a child who instead of admitting he made a mistake just deflects then makes more mistakes.

Even by your own words you agreed with me. You claimed Lebron wanted Gilbert to pay as much as he had to because he hated Gilbert.

Are you suggesting A) he would not have wanted Gilbert to spend as much as possible because of his hatred had he not had Klutch, or B) he would not have hated Gilbert had he not had Klutch.

You claim some kind of "win" because you repeated what I said all along? That this deal gets done whether Lebron has Klutch or not.

You are priceless and I appreciate the comedy you provide. If you ever want to provide less unintentional comedy speak up and I will help you out.

I asked you a one line yes or no question.
I guess it's a no.
Carry on...
Maybe write it 10 or 20 more times and someone might agree with you just to shut you up, but I doubt it.

Brogodon is a great example.

Really good player.

Massively overpaid.

Chandler Parsons going to the Mavs is another.

Can't everyone be a little right and agree to disagree?

You are on bath salts if you think any other team was willing to pay Tristan close to that amount.

Yes, Gilbert knew the cap was going up and he'd get offers the following year.

Also, emphatically, YES, Klutch and James were a huge reason Thompson got as much as he did.

LeBron wanted him back and the Cavs didn't have the ability to bring in another guy with his perceived upside because of their payroll.

So, Klutch singnee or not, they were going to have to overpay....

But, probably not to the extent that they did.

To say otherwise is revisionist history.

Tristan is role player who was at the right place, at the right time.

It pays to be friends with LeBron James.

It pays to share his agent, too.

Not that Tristan Thompson is getting $82 million just for that. LeBron has a lot of friends who aren't getting $82 million of Dan Gilbert's money.

Nonetheless, Thompson agreeing to a five-year deal just days before the season opener after months of haggling and weeks of holding out is the latest example of the LeBron Effect.

LeBron usually gets what he wants, and in this case, he really wanted Thompson to be on his team this season.

Thompson's return to Team LeBron was only going to be a matter of price.

Thompson wanted a max deal totaling $94 million. The Cavs weren't willing to go that high.

Much to Thompson's chagrin, not a single team stepped forward with a max offer sheet, which would've made everyone except Gilbert happy.

Thompson would've gotten his max, LeBron would've gotten his teammate back, and Paul would've gotten a bigger commission.

It didn't unfold this way simply because Thompson is worth more to the Cavaliers than he'd be worth to any team that might've contemplated extending him an offer sheet.

"Big difference between what he wants and what he's worth," one NBA source said as the saga unfolded.

Would Thompson have been worth all that trouble (and money) to, say, the Portland Trail Blazers? Not by a long shot. But given the stakes for the Cavs in this second coming of the LeBron era, he's worth it to them.

Tristan Thompson's deal the latest example of the LeBron Effect

Actually, I think @dtgold88 and I are pretty much on the same page. I just think the Cavs overpaid more than he thinks they did. But I think we both agree he was overpaid.

Yup.

He was worth more to the Cavs than anywhere else, by a significant margin.

Their inability to replace him because of cap restrictions, his agent and Lebron's ability to bolt after every other year were all factors in that overpay.

Yep. They aren't giving up Lebron, AD, or Kuzma. Outside of those 3, I don't think anyone else on the roster can be traded until December except Alex Caruso. The Cavs ain't buying out TT for a solid backup point guard.

it's the same. well, I guess the difference is if I disagree with someone I'll provide logic and reason for why. If proven to have said something factually incorrect or that discredits a previous comment of mine I'll own up to it.

You get this is a sports forum, right? what is "not ending well"? Being removed? It would be a little disappointing due to why it would happen, but I'll be OK. If it's the worst thing to happen to me I'd consider that a big win for me.

Not originally, but his story keeps changing.
Maybe he'll just agree to this and STFU?
