Could be. Then again, a large portion of that salary for the hold-out year gets reclaimed.

Good luck to Zeke, if this is really what he's thinking. The last such RB to holdout missed the entire season and was forced to sign with the Jets.

Situation will be different, I believe. If Zeke holds out like Bell then he will never accrue the years to get to FA and get that Franchise tag. He can hold our of camp and games, but will have to show up eventually. Dallas can screw him by making him show up halfway through the season the next two years and then tagging him twice. Jerry isn't the vindictive guy I am, so he won't let it get to that point.

Or he could put feelers out to see if anyone will trade for Zeke.

Yup, he isn't going to play in training camp anyhow.

If I'm Dallas I tell him we can look at an extension now if he wants. But nothing about the next two years changes. Give him a 3/$50M extension but only the first of those years is guaranteed at signing. Each one vests at the end of the following seasons. So he has to play out his remaining two years for all three of the extension to be vested. If he does that he can say he is the highest paid RB on new money and we have him locked for basically a 5/$65M contract. And money sticks around to pay Dak and Amari on frontloaded deals.

I believe the CBA forbids changing rookie deals, so he's locked into his 2019 money, I think they can redo 2020 as that's his extension year.

I do think paying him now before the cap jumps next year is better for the team. As for any guarantees, I'd guarantee his signing bonus and be willing to guarantee 3 to 4 years of his contract, with the stipulation any and I mean any suspension be it team or NFL driven voids any unpaid guarantees.

I'll agree with you, but for a different reason. I don't think Jerry Jones is a very good GM. Zeke's gamble might actually pay off, if he does hold out. The situation is very different with Colbert & the Steelers, and they fairly effectively called Bell's bluff with James Conner.

I dont think there is anything to see here.

Rookie deal will always stay in place.

What he gets is his signing bonuses & what not earlier. on top of his rookie deal.
it is advantageous for the boys to extend him while on the rookie deal.

No matter what he "plays" two years for the Cowboys. So the whole hold out conversation is nothing when it comes to regular season.
Just less wear & tear going into the season.

Ezekiel Elliott has privately said that he’s planning a training-camp holdout

If I was Dak I’d be the one saying this, not Zeek. Dak has made about $800,000 a year and I just can’t fathom him playing this year and risking catastrophic injury. Dak holding out makes sense, not Zeek.

I agree, he is clearly their best offensive player. He should get paid. But by pushing a deal now, while he is still under contract for two more seasons, he may complicate the deals for Prescott and Cooper.

Zeke is still young enough that it wouldn't be too bad to give him a decent contract. The leveon bell contract was completely stupid though because of his age.

Dak is more intelligent than that.
It makes zero sense to hold out on a rookie contract. Nothing will change.
Besides. Dak knows he is gonna get his deal this year. he is a leader. He will not be holding out.

Screw him if he holds out. Stop getting into trouble, play out your deal and then come talk. Until then play or go the fuck home. The Cowboys can win the East without Zeke. At some point he needs to come back or he sits out forever. Don't let players hold you hostage.

My bet is Jerrah pays the man and the issue is all resolved before opening day. But this is probably giving Jerrah bad memories of the 90s when Emmitt held out and they went 0-2 before Jerrah brought in the Brinks truck way back in the day.

Seriously now, I think we all knew the Cowboys would eventually be faced with a tough decision: which franchise RB do you keep, Dak or Zeke?

I really REALLY disagree and if I was Daks agent there isn’t a chance in hell I let him play. What if he gets a terrible injury during this season like Wentz, RG3, Teddy Bridgewater, Alex Smith. I mean Rodgers and Brady have been lost for a season too. What if that happens this year? Dak just can’t risk that. He needs his 100,000,000 guaranteed right now. Has nothing to do with being a leader. I agree Dak comes off as intelligent and that’s exactly why he can’t gamble 100,000,000 for absolutely nothing.
The dumbest thing a franchise QB can do is play the last year of his deal with zero security.

If Zeke held out and didn't play and the Cowboys didn't win the division, he'd be the first one bringing up the excuse that Dak was undermanned and that's why he couldn't get the job done.

Without Zeke, the Cowboys would go 8-8. Maybe worse. And Dak would get exposed trying to carry the offense as a passer. Zeke has a ton of leverage.

Bro, no way. Philly is a very good team and that O runs through Zeek. I think Zeek is the best RB in the NFL and he makes it soooooo hard to play Dallas.

Wrong dopey. When have I ever said Dak didn't win a game because of his supporting cast. You spoke of STATS. Dak's stats were affected by those around him. Dak wins.
