You make like 18,000 in the military and get college assistance. Let’s say you go to college. The average college grad makes like 70,000. You’re missing out on 280,000 which will easily pay for college and a lot lot more, especially if you start off at community college

Your stats are wrong and can't be proven. I provide links, you provide horse shit lies.

We were talking about going to the military before you go to college for 4 years. I think it’s smarter to take the loans and work in your field 4 years and pay off your debt while you are making much more money.

As someone who paying on student loans, I disagree. If I could do it all over again, I'd serve the time and take being debt free when I finished. I don't think the GI bill covers grad school though.

I went to college. I learned liberalism at every turn. I went in the military before I graduated and continued while serving.
I spent my entire time in the military paying off debt from school. When I left service I started my 1st of many business's.
I don't need to work. I work to serve. I could retire today.

You need to talk to some of the young men and women I have worked with. By the time they are 40 they have their 1st retirement in the bag, they are educated and trained. They have seen the world while your frat house buddy's are still trying to save for an education. Guys like @Manster7588 , working at civilian jobs towards a 2nd retirement check are doing very well, thank you. I'm living in the tropics all expenses paid. It's a good life.
I hope you have your tenure. Could be rough if you lost your job.

One final thing: Those who can, do; those who can't, teach

That’s cool and I never felt that you can’t be successful using the military as a spring board. I said that I think it’s better just to go straight to University or Comm College start earning and pay off your debt.
I’m retired too. I was close to earning a full pension but could cut out a few years early because of an inheritance and my wife has a 7 figure 401k

How much do you owe and what’s your ballpark income?

Remember before last year when a lot of us were saying that it looks like they are trying to rush Wentz back from his injury to avoid a QB controversy? Remember PE1 calling us trolls and giving reports about how great he looks in camp and how the medical staff would never do that because they know what they are doing? Remember myself and @SteelersPride saying it takes a long time to come back from an ACL injury and again PE1 calling us trolls?

Well, here we are a year later and NOW Eagles fans are saying that he was rushed back and the medical staff has been fired yet PE1 will never... and I repeat NEVER acknowledge any of this. He’ll just gin up some argument based upon some “fact” he will take out of context and call everyone haters and trolls.

Yes indeed. The timing of the injury and Wentz's comments about being back week 1 didn't add up to the time frame of how long it takes to come back from that injury. I said by week 5 would be a good start and ex Eagles players on the radio were in the 6-7 week range of the season on bringing him back.

Actually that's false.

No, it isn’t. People were screaming to bench Dak. Wentz played well and the Eagles were struggling cause the vast injuries on the D especially the secondary. Wentz wasn’t as good as 2017 which most Eagle fans expected but we weren’t screaming for him to be benched.

You do realize a lot of fans were pissed at Wentz cause outside of one game, the team couldn't move the ball and put points on the board in the first half. I'm not a Dak fan and I do like Wentz, but he was average last year and most numbers he put up were hollow numbers.

I do pretty well, well over the $70k you have as your average and together with the wife and we pay pretty close to $700/month towards our loans. It would be great to just have that money and invest it in something and not be paying over $3k in interest on them each year. Now that I'm seeing the GI bill also covers grad school, I actually regret it more. You got to look at that as part of your salary while you are in the military as well.

When your taking the money, its easy to say, I'll just live broke for a couple of years and pay it off. But then life happens, especially if your married and your wife can't work and furthermore if you have kids. If I was single, that plan might have worked out.

You were a kid and you made a decision. You are doing well and with wife and kids and a good job, you have a great future. You did not make a bad decision. Life is complex. I do not want to talk on here about the bad decisions I made because I was young.

So here’s the deal IMO. If you went to the military you would have delayed 4 years of earning. Since you said you make more then 70 grand I’ll go with 75 grand. You are passing up 300,000 of income to spend 4 years in the military to knock out college loans. If you owe more then 300,000 in loans it would have been worth going to the military ... but I doubt it’s a 1/3 of that.

Ignoring the interest, there is the inability to take training to advance, inability to move to a better position because you are broke, I could go on.

I don’t remember Eagle fans being down on Wentz. I do remember them being pissed at the D. We were losing games up 17-0 with less then 10 minutes left and losing. I am a Dak fan as opposed to you. I think he’s good but he just doesn’t have elite QB talents.

That’s true. The only time I think debt is ok is education and a home. I guess cars too but to a lesser degree. Too many get way into debt buying cars that are too nice for their income.

Thanks. Really appreciate the post. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy it. Just can't wait till we get these things paid off. Oh, and no kiddos just yet for us, was just saying that's another thing that change your plans some.

Sorry, what question did you ask me. And no... you didn’t abuse me at all. You’re just butt hurt that I think going straight to college is a better career move. I think the money, 401k etc lost while in the military doesn’t equal the benefit of going to college first. That’s not a ludicrous thought. Plus you don’t have to deal with the PTSD and depression so many soldiers struggle with.

I've asked multiple questions. All of which you dodged.

You keep making it sound like a freshman in college is making $70k. Not even after graduation do most students fall into a 70k job. We know anyone with a teaching cert isn't making 70k in the majority of school districts. So stop with the bs. A freshman maybe has a part time job. He/she is incurring debt for 4+ years.

If you're man enough go back and answer my questions. You won't because you're not and you know you're wrong on so many accounts.

Like many on here. I joined the military, got a degree that I actually used (unlike the majority of kids coming out of school, that can actually find a decent paying job). Spent 30 years. Purchased multiple properties while I was in. I've now sold them all and own my house overseas because I paid cash for it. My retirement check is more then enough to cover all my expenses. I travel when and where I want, whenever I want.

Yep I'm one of those uneducated people who didn't graduate HS and immediately start incurring debt. Instead I started a career, contributed to society, got an education and retired at 50.
