What would we have to do to beat a team like Boston in a 7 game series?
They can play any type of way. Speed, tough, skilled ,defensive, offensive. I dont know how we would beat them. They dont have cap problems for a few years. What makes us think we will have a team good enough to get past them for a shot at the cup.

Well, they were 2-1 against them this year. Obviously regular season vs playoffs is a different beast, but that's more encouraging than being 0-3 against them.

IMO, it's all about the Marchand/Bergeron/Pastarnak line. They win almost every top line vs top line battle. They're so defensively sound and make the most of almost every opportunity they get. And if they play a team that lacks depth, like the Canes, that makes a huge difference.

Then of course their defense is very good too. Chara, McAvoy, and Krug are a really solid top 3. And Rask is on fire.

But I don't think the Flyers are that far behind the Bruins. They just need some progression from their young guys. If Hart is the real deal, he can play the Rask role. If Provorov, Sanheim, and Ghost take the next step, they make a pretty good top 3 themselves. And they have the makings of a dominant, two-way, top line with Giroux/Couturier, they just need a 3rd piece there. Maybe it's Konecny, maybe it's not. Maybe you bump Voracek back up there.

What they're really missing, is a Krejci for their 2nd line. Patrick has potential, I think he's already pretty good defensively, just needs to bring more offense. But if they make a big acquisition at 2C, and can roll him out with Voracek and Lindblom, they have two very good, two-way, lines. That's difficult to match up with.

And if Raffl/Laughton/Harman is the Flyers 4th line next year, I'll take them against just about anybody's 4th line.

Man that is a lot of ifs. Trying to go up against a team that can play any type of game and should be together for at least a few more years is not encouraging.

If SJ takes the West, I would be curious to see how Boston fared against them. Who do they put the Bergeron line out against? Probably Meier/Couture/Nyquist. And they probably win that head-to-head. But the Sharks might be deeper than them. I think Kane/Hertl/Pavelski goes to work on DeBrusk/Krejci/Backes.

Plus, there's no way the Bruins go 7-14 on the PP or whatever it was against the Canes.

It's always going to be a lot of ifs. CBJ swept Tampa in the 1st round and Tampa had the best record in NHL history. CBJ fans probably weren't expecting victory there, they were hoping things broke right for them. And they did.

Boston looks better than the Flyers. And were better than the Flyers this year. It's tough to paint a pretty picture of their matchup in the future without ifs.

I beg to differ about Columbus and not expecting to beat Tampa. They traded away their future to get players that can compete with Tampa and Boston. Im sure with all of the good players they traded for that they went into that series thinking they could beat anyone.

At the start of the playoffs the Lightning were 5/2 favorites to win the cup. The Blue Jackets were 33/1, lowest odds in the playoffs.

If anyone expected Columbus to win, they had their homer goggles on. They were hoping they could beat them.

Im not saying the odds makers were giving them a chance im saying everyone in the Columbus organization were thinking they could beat anybody with those moves they made, if they didnt think that why would they trade every draft pick for the next two years except a third rounder next year and a conditional first the year after. They put that team together thinking they could win a cup.

Yes we beat the 4-3 and 3-2 in OT and lost 3-0.

Beating someone in a 7 game series in playoff hockey is a little different than the regular season.

True but ut shows we match up agaibst them pretty well too. Just not the rest of the league.
