Tim Brady does not make top ten money, he purposely structures his contracts in a manor where his team can afford to have a supporting cast. Only one team with a player in the top ten highest paid players has won the Superbowls in the last 25 years and that was the Giants. Eli Manning was just made the list being ranked tenth in one of their victories. Say what you want, argue your case all you want, but history says it doesn’t happen. You are banking on the exception

As are you expecting anyone besides Brady to sacrifice their pay for other guys. It's not like the Pats are out there constantly signing big name FA because of all the money Brady saves them. They still evaluate talent and if anything, usually bring in guys who are more unknown. That comes down to the scouting staff the same way it does when you allocate money to one guy and need to hit on young talent to fill out the roster.

That's great he got his money....but I don't want to hear shit about not having pieces around him on offense he better make it work with DB, Lockett, and our run game

Can you go ahead and post the last time Russell Wilson said anything remotely like complaining about "not having pieces around him," or are you simply projecting a tired trope?

He's already made a career of doing that anyways, no?

There were a lot of chattering heads claiming it would be closer to $40mil yr. Instead it was a pretty standard deal. It will be surpassed next year by the next guy in line. It wasn't unique.

Rodgers was also hampered by bad injuries in two different seasons that probably killed those years. That first collar bone season they were deadly with him and hot garbage without him.

With the horrible team around him last year, Rodgers still helped them be competitive... 6 of their 9 losses were by one score... That's what a franchise, veteran QB can do for ya even if the pieces around aren't that great...

Sure, I was pointing out that GB likely would have been in contention at least one other season if not for a freak injury so the argument he makes so much they can't win is not entirely valid.

We had to do this deal and really didn't get screwed by it. His big old signing bonus will be spread out over the next 5 years.

Isn't the CBA up for renewal soon? How much of a bullet might they have dodged if that swings more in the players favor?

$35m per year is the number I kept throwing out as what I assumed to be the baseline for what we'd have to pay to retain him.

That being said I'm fine with it. He didn't get his contract tied to a percentage of the cap which is a big win for the Hawks.

With the CBA set to expire after the 2020 season and the NFL salary cap expected to expand substantially as the result of a new agreement, Wilson's contract as a percentage of the cap will likely go down exponentially.

Expires after 2020. He probably could've just taken the tag for a few years then been able to argue for a lot more money. It would appear to me that the new CBA will expand the salary cap substantially.

Yes it's a huge portion of the salary cap now, but once a new CBA is agreed upon I expect that it won't represent such a huge anchor on our financial situation a few years from now. I think that's the biggest silver lining.

This won't be his last contract. He'll have 2 years under the new CBA and then get whatever the market demands at that time at age 34.

Oh it definitely won't be his last contract. I believe he will be 35 when the contract expires and I swear I recall that he said he plans on playing as long as he can.

In the meantime, I'm fine with this.

I was referring to all the sports analyst saying that the hawks never put anything around him and that he is always running for his life. If he demands to eat that much cap space he needs to share more blame whenever the seahawks fail to make the super bowl

When the seahawks were great they were a loaded team from top to bottom and with a stacked defense and strong run game his responsibilities aren't as deep as they are now. And honestly I don't think russ has what it takes I think if Russ has to carry the team we will just be a 9-10 win team maybe win 1 playoff game and get bounced early

So he needs to man up and stop letting the media say things? Seriously, WTF?

When has Wilson NOT taken responsibility for his play?

Whenever the seahawks lose its always from what I see either bad coaching, the defense couldn't get stops, or bad offensive line he is running for his life, bad run game I never see Wilson get the blame. How about in that Dallas playoff game someone say hey Wilson you bum throw for more than 233 yards and 1 TD. When you demand all this money you need to show up

Huge relief they got a deal done so the drive by media wont be spending the draft and summer/fall only talking about it.

Ofcourse they'll find other negative things about the hawks, but at least those aholes will have to invent some other fake news about us.

Glad they came to a deal that works and will keep Wilson here for years to come. He's gonna be a hall of Famer and will go in as a Seahawk. Amen.

Again, what has RUSSELL WILSON said? He has no control over what other people say.

You think the problem in the Dallas game was Russell Wilson? I'm honestly curious.

I don't get the hate at all. He's one of the top QBs in the game. No one has more 4th quarter come from behind wins, but he has to do more. :L

No QB that has ever played is perfect. Wilson has flaws and has had some bad games. So does every other QB. Period. Name me a QB and I'll find you games just as bad if not worse than any of his.

I really just don't understand some of this at all.

Heh. Same ol' same ol.

Ok. Here's the stat I saw somewhere yesterday that stuck with me.

ALL TIME: TD/INT ratio. Wilson is at #2

IN FUCKING NFL HISTORY. (just let that sink in for a minute)

Now, another stat

Since 2012, he's been sacked 299 times #1 in the NFL during that timeframe.

Now look, how many times have we seen hearlded ballyhooed QB prospects end up out of the league because they got sacked a lot.

Did Wilson do that? Nope. He has so far had the SECOND BEST TD/INT ratio OF ALL FUCKING TIME. While getting sacked 299 times.

But apparently he needs to take more blame from somebody, and quit making ex... well he doesn't make those. but he has to... do.... something... well... you know... uh...better, or else make the g-damn Superbowl every year!!!

Russell Wilson also only 1 of 2 QBs of all time to play 7 seasons and have a 100+ QB rating. Rodgers is the only one ahead of him.

Russ gets his fair share of blame when he has a shit game. That Dallas game was on Pete and Shotty for not making any adjustments until it was too late.
