I was responding to your claim that Tiger winning was "good" for the sport. I hear that all the time and it's just not true. Tiger has a minimal effect on golf. I know the "experts" claim otherwise, but IMO they're just resorting to lazy journalism.

You can say that with a straight face? TV ratings say otherwise. Not to mention the crowds reaction today when he won, or him winning at East Lake last year. What other modern era golfer had ever gotten that kind of treatment? You seemed very jilted to even suggest as much.

Simply not true. The training these players go through today is exponentially better. Nobody in Jack’s era had the swing speeds these players have.

Freddie Couples averaged 268 as a strong, flexible 22 YO flat belly in 82. He averaged 298 as a 49 YO with back trouble in 2009. There are countless similar apples-to-apples comparisons and it's very easy to educate yourself on the subject if you care to.

Historic day. Lots of people dislike Tiger but this is good for the sport. Don't be surprised if he makes a run at Jack's major record. I don't think he gets to18 but won't be shocked if Tiger wins1-2 more.
Baldy will win at least one more Major this year. When he is healthy, the difference between him and the other players is he doesn't choke under pressure and they do.

Not a huge golf fan but did nothing but sit on the couch since 8 this morning and watch. Quick question...how do they pay out when so many guys at the top tie?

If 4 tie for 3rd, they add the 3-6 place money and divide by 4... for example.

Yes, there certainly was a lot of knob gobbling going on by CBS and the fans. Somehow those fans equate Baldy being a winner as they themselves being winners.

Its an weird calculation.. @Hang_On_Sloopy08 probably knows it better..

But if like 10 guys are tied for 2nd, they split 2nd through 10th place money and then so on..

Average out 2nd through 4th payout and give it to all three for example. It's pretty common especially lower in the standings to have six guys get 174,000 or whatever.

Great finish. I couldn't watch live because of some bullshit egg hunt.

Oh well... now we get to LOL at all the Tiger haters. Enjoy your day, douchebags.

I don't see how so many people can hate Tiger. This is definitely good for the sport,[/B] I bet he just put a million $ extra in all the other top golfers pockets. Him being all the way back is extra viewership and extra sponsorship dollars
It doesn't excuse the fact that he was an arrogant piece of shit for years who had no respect for others on the course and network people who were simply doing their jobs. He thought he was bigger than the sport. I was glad to see him get his come-uppance.

no more than if Brooks had won. But if you'd like to equate Tiger winning to you being a loser, thats fine.

It's beyond argument that he's great for the game by any reasonable definition. Before Tiger (97) the most money ever won in a year was $1.7 million. Since 1999 the top money winner has averaged roughly $8 million, with the lowest amount for a leading money winner being $5 million. That's all due to Tiger.
Actually it is due to inflation and more schools adding golf to their curriculum. The game continues to evolve with or without him.

Most of the players on the champions tour are driving further now than they did in their prime.

What shitty equipment were they using in their prime?

The improvement in golf equipment and weight training are allowing these guys to play well at an advanced age.

I miss Rivals just because of this Masters. All those fools that told us Tiger was finished. Haha.
