no better options that wanted to go to Miami thats for sure. lol......but wait, you got a "meeting". lol

well, RW signed his extension- hes not coming to Miami- instead- lets give a TON of money to Dion Waiters and James Johnson, lol.

The actual annual salaries were pretty much a bargain for that summer.
Less years would have been better, no doubt, but its a negotiation, not whats always best for the team.

I know, you know, everyone knows that FA will come to Miami.
Not every one, not every time, but we all know its coming.
Cavs can never even think like that.
Just isn’t happening.
Wade wouldn’t even let his kids live in that hell hole when he was playing there.

oh well we shall see when it happens next- its not gonna happen until there is someone that guy can join.

No one is going to Miami to be by themselves and be mediocre.

I mean, this is all obvious stuff.

My point is- that you need stars to win, and the most likely place you find stars is at the top of the draft.

you ca absolutely lose with a star on your team- but you cant win without them.

you can find stars in the 2nd round- you can find post-hype guys like Oladipo, that happens- it just doesnt happen that often.

Its a giant circle.
There are tons more top 5 picks over the years that never played for a championship, or even came close.
Professional athletes and franchises should always have the mindset to try to win.
For what it costs to go, and what players earn, it just should be that way.
If teams want to lose on purpose, refund the cash or credit it towards next year.

Almost more exceptions than examples of the rule.
well, and i mean, i would think this is obvious- but lets say its even-

in 10 years of the draft, there are 50 players that go top 5.

in 10 years of the draft, there are 550 players that do not go in the top 5.

So, out of those 50, maybe 20 become high level players- 40%

So, out of those 550, maybe 20 become high level players- 3.6%

If the Heat have Bam, Winslow, J Rich and max money for 2 players, its a great situation for any top FA to seriously consider IMO.

Sure but I wonder if you compared top 5 to say next 15....

I don't think anyone is disagreeing here. Top 5 is better, but not really that much better. Depends on the year.

Fair math.
How many win rings?

On top of that, it wasn’t that long ago that we didn’t have all this FA movement.
Stars pretty much stayed with their treams.

I haven’t looked at contracts, but I believe its possible next summer.
No chance Riley adds any long time money this summer.
He’s going to go the same route as the year prior to the Big 3.

not THIS SUMMEr

but the following summer for the Heat:

Winslow-13
Richardson-11
Bam- RFA- due a raise
James Johnson- 16M
Kelly Onlyk- 12M
Dion Waiters- 13M

WITHOUT BAM- you have commitments of 65M...thats without Bam's possible extension. Other teams will be able to give him an offer sheet Miami would have to match.

So, WITHOUT ANY RAISE FOR BAM- 65M--- lets say Bam makes a low ball figure of 10M- which is low, but hey, what are friends for?--- so thats 75M

the cap at that point will prob be somewhere between 122 and 128.- lets say 125 for shits and giggles. A max would START at about 38M. a "max" contract is 30% of the cap.

2 max contracts would require 76M in cap room.

125-75- 50M.

and thats with only 6 guys under contract- and no cap holds for draft picks or the other roster spots.

Now will Onlyk decline his 12M dollar player option? ehh...doubtful, but not impossible

JJohnson? LOL- no way in FUCK hes turning down 16M - that is a BAD fucking deal. lol

its a FANTASY to think the Heat will have the cap space to sign 2 max guys in the summer of 2020.

For sure Whiteside and Dragic have 1 year left.
Thats a ton right there.
Dion 14M
Josh 11M
Justice 13M
Bam 5M

Player option
JJ 16M
Kelly O 13M

yes exactly

you think Johnson is turning down that option? Kelly MAYBE, doubtful but maybe

and as i said- that 5M on Bam is the tender amt.--- another team can sign him to an offer sheet and force Miami to match.

simple math slugger.

say the cap is 125. a max would be 38M to START.

ya got 76M in cap space?

no , of course not.

and its not even like they have very much in the way of draft sweetners to get teams to take bad deals--- MAYBE you can get someone to take Olnyk

J. Johnson is the real shit bag contract. 2 years and 31M left AFTER this year.....has to be one of the worst in the league

Bam is TEAM option next summer.

You act like Kelly O and JJ aren’t tradeable if needed.
They are. Theres always a way.
Kelly O needs to stay at that price anyway.
Try to replace him.

You really have forgotten about the money thrown around that summer.

I mean, Miles Plumlee got 4/52, Delly 4/38, S. Hill 4/48, Noah 4/72, let alone the Lakers moves as well as many others.

The Celtics should trade Kyrie to LA LA Land so he can rekindle his bromance w/ LeBron. Wait a minute, the Lakers don't have anyone that could help Boston out. Never mind. Bad trade idea.

No worries. They don't need to trade him. He can just come as a free agent.

lol...still never answered my question that you conveinently avoid-

what is better

-being the 8th seed, with no cap room and little draft assets and getting your ass whooped in the first round?

or

-being one of the worst teams in the league, taking on bad contracts for extra draft assets , getting 2 extra 1st rounders, and 6 extra second rounders and getting a premium lotto pick?

still waiting on the answer.

I'll take the former if management knows how to draft and develop the talent.

The later's great and all if you have a plan. But if you're Cleveland, you have to be wondering how this rebuild is going to work this time around given that Lebron isn't coming back to be a savior.

And I wouldn't act like every team can take the 76ers route going forward.

This also has me curious, do you feel that the Spurs should've tanked then? They did trade away Kawhi who's arguably a top 5 player in the NBA. DeRozan's a good player and an all-star and all, but he's been inconsistent in the playoffs. Had they traded Kawhi for draft picks and assets, they would've been tanking. Instead, they traded for pieces to keep them as a playoff contender where they'll likely go to the 1st or 2nd round at best.

Are you saying that the Spurs are now a horrible ran franchise? Just curious.
