2019 Texas Rangers Spring Training Thread

Calhoun only hit .217 this spring. Didn't help himself none. I'm interested to see if Choo struggles and hits around .200 or below, if the Rangers will call up Calhoun and play him. Would remind me of Rua. Would call him up and not play him.

I think he could have hit .400 this spring and all it would have gotten him was a spot on the bench. I am glad that didn't happen. He is better off playing every day in AAA.

Yes he did but if we are going with a young rebuild then a better choice may have been Calhoun. Just a thought.

I think a big part of the decision to keep him is that he is a right handed bat. If they were both left handed, they might have kept Calhoun.

Gotta send the right message to not only your own players, but other players in the league who will hopefully consider joining your team one day.

That odor shit is freaking embarassing. The best player should play regardless of contract, status, or situation.

Pence earned his spot by playing his ass off. He should be rewarded for that. Hopefully, he tears it up and maybe we can flip him for prospects at the deadline if he does.

If Choo was gone Calhoun would be starting DH.
If Pence was gone they probably keep another RH bat other than Calhoun.

Part of the burn for Calhoun is the money he is missing out on not making the club. Minor league money is a huge pay cut. Like losing the promotion you totally sold out for. He gave up a lifestyle to make this club and in his mind it was still not enough

We just need to move Choo somehow. In the short run this is the right move but things like this can mess with a guys head regardless of how mature they ideally should handle it. We shall see how much his character continues to develop.

I have put up a season prediction thread if anyone is interested in doing some friendly prognosticating.

On last year's season prediction thread I asked how many AB everyone expected from Calhoun in 2018. His 99 AB were well less than half of the closest guess. Half of those who guessed had him getting between 300 and 400 AB.

Three of our nine guessers guessed we would win between 14 and 21 more games than we won.

That is a great message for Willie. I wish someone would give the front office the message that this year and most likely next year is all about finding out about what guys like Willie can do in the big leagues. It isn't about trying to come close to .500 instead of only winning 73-75 games.

Even after all the work he put in in the offseason you think his attitude is bad? Are you sure you aren't holding some resentment because JD didn't get a better deal for Darvish, and you are taking it out on Calhoun just a tad? Maybe not, but as I recall you were the most disappointed in what we got in the trade, and you seem the most disappointed in Calhoun now. Maybe that is just a coincidence though.
