No More "Bullpen Failure" - maybe
I guess it was starting rotation or bust for him.
JD keeps steering the ship in the opposite direction faster than Willie can swim.
It was obvious from his previous statements that he wanted to be a starter. They tried to get cute by putting him in the pen so he couldn't leave, but I guess he showed them what he thought of that idea. The ironic thing is, he would have probably been better than a couple of starters they have hitched themselves to. Oh well, those kind of decisions help us in the 2020 draft.

Or was it the manager?JD keeps steering the ship in the opposite direction faster than Willie can swim.
JD is responsible for Choo still being here, not Woodward.Or was it the manager?
I think had they released him he might have tried to find another starting job. He was probably very close to retiring when he decided to give it a go in ST to try and win a starting spot. You think he would be better than Miller, Smyly or Lynn? Strange to me the timing and not quite as obvious if he was thinking starter or bust. Never heard him say he had to be a starter only that MILB was not an option. Perhaps I am unable to read between the lines
But yes really thought he would get some starts this season. One less guy blocking our young guts right?
@Nightcrawler stated Willie has a bad attitude and he may be correct but I'm leaning more toward a bad case of immaturity. Walking out because he did not like the mgr's decision to go to the minors is just plain immature and not being concerned for the team but only for himself. Glad he came back to camp today. This is where Beltre could straighten him out.The media can relax. Calhoun is on camp today.
