I think getting a new coaching staff would be the more applicable "hardship"
So Ohio St has started hiring shitty coaches?
:useful:

I don't see a problem with it. If anything, it hopefully keeps schools/coaches more honest to recruits. As I said in another thread, if Mattison & Washington can up and leave Michigan all of a sudden to coach at Ohio State, then why can't a player? It's not like Mattison has to sit out coaching for a year.
Quotes, dipshit
Yeah, how dare a talented, young kid with a finite amount of time to prove himself to the pros think he's entitled to get to play. And you're wrong. He committed to Urban because he was a fit for his scheme. Urban happened to be coaching at Ohio State. He had no control over Urban retiring or Day getting the job, and Day runs a different scheme and wants a different QB. Literally nobody at all is hurt by Martell getting to play early, give it a rest. You should, but hey this is idiot America where everyone is entitled to something.
Wrong. He was recruited by the coaches under the promise he would be coached by them. That is why the coach matters so much. If that coache leaves the kid can too.Bullshit. He signed a contract with Ohio St, NOT Urban Meyer.
Period.
Yes it's called freedom of pursuit of happinessYou should, but hey this is idiot America where everyone is entitled to something.
The University did not, at least in therms of Mattison. His contract was up. I believe Washington was on a limited contract with no buy out. Usually with position coaches there's no penalty to break their contract other than losing the remaining balance of said contract. With head coaches, sure -- there's usually a buy out.The university had to be compensated for the coach to do such a thing, the player transferring provides no compensation.
All are done to protect the university and it's just plain ignorant to link the 2.
Everyone in this thread is what is wrong with this country. Entitled bitches who think everything in the world is just an extension of mommy and daddy's pockets.

Technically true, but not the reality. If kids were allowed to sign contracts to coaches as long as they were at the school, my guess is most would over signing with the school.Bullshit. He signed a contract with Ohio St, NOT Urban Meyer.

Let that hate flow right though you. I think it's funny. Martell isn't the first college football player (or basketball player) to leave a program after a coaching change.
Period.
They would if the NCAA didn't pointlessly limit them out a year (and sometimes still do). The reality is, the NCAA is in position to screw over players, not coaches. Big name coaches hold all the negotiating power. Its 100% the reality.
If it wasn't the reality, the kids would transfer with the coach when they changed schools.
No it wasn't. The contract was broken in the case of Washington. There was just no punishment written in for breaking the contract. The university WAS compensated because the contract was fulfilled.
Geez you guys are fucking stupid.
What hate? I don't even know who this kid is and has nothing to do with him. It's about the topic in general.
Oh this is funny stuff right here. So that comment of yours that I quoted (# 39) where you said- he signed a contract w/ Ohio State, NOT Urban Meyer. If your comment had nothing to do w/ Martell (as you're claiming) what exactly are you talking about?
No it wasn't. The contract was broken in the case of Washington. There was just no punishment written in for breaking the contract.
The unfair reality is that coaches get to negotiate those things. Players do not.
