Can I point out one minor issue I have with this? Urban is still employed at OSU. Fox has basically hired an Ohio State employee to try and be some impartial TV show host. No thanks. At least with Herbstreit there's an attempt at hiding his bias. Fox should make Urban cut ties with the University.
You are right, that's a very minor issue.

If it was virtually anyone else associated with OSU, probably not. Hell, Robert Smith was on the show last year and I didn't say anything. Objectively, having one of the best CFB coaches of all-time on your broadcast is a big boost. I'll take his analysis over anyone on CGD right now, and it has nothing to do with him coaching at OSU. If it was Saban, I'd have made this same thread.

You think having Meyer is going to boast ratings? A lot of people see him as a great coach that will be boring as a commentator. I truthfully doubt his insight is going to drive ratings.

An that last part I call Bullshit.

I think it will make the show unwatchable to most fans who aren't OSU fans.
I think you're probably making a lot more out of this than you should. If he was going to be just some big OSU homer on the air, they wouldn't have hired him in the first place. I think your issue is that watching him will just give you continued PTSD about how he owned your team.

I think for the types of viewers that have had enough of ESPN over the past few years will enjoy having a knowledgeable analyst who has been in the game until very recently giving his analysis. I would say that's pretty relevant.

And I know you do, even though you're wrong. I've been reasonably vocal about my disdain for ESPN, and this is another blow to the network, so I'm happy to talk about it. If Saban was on there, or Dabo, or any other elite coach, I would have made this thread, because it's a blow to ESPN, which is what makes me happiest.

How could he not be a massive OSU homer? He literally works for OSU still; and has a vested interest in their success. He can essentially use the program to recruit for OSU.

So why wouldn't Herbie have done that? Why wouldn't Robert Smith had done that? Do you think they instantly don't like OSU anymore, or don't have a vested interest in seeing them continue to succeed? Again, you're blowing this way out of proportion. He's a CFB analyst and Fox is trying to take down CGD, use your head.

Unlike the uberHomer, Desmond Howard whose promotion of the Vagerines should be on Comedy Central, not a sports station.

This. He and Holtz were/are huge homers. Honestly doubt Meyer will be as bad as them in that regard, but we'll see.

No, it's just different when that person is also inside the program still; actively meeting with recruits and so on.

You do know he's not actively recruiting, right?

I'll give it a shot. I doubt it takes away much from Gameday if it's in a studio.

This is a really fair point. Says they're going to be out on the road for at least 4 weeks of the season. My guess is they ramp it up if need be. Not like they don't have the money to do it.

That doesn't matter. If m-N-b09 thinks Meyer's actively recruiting players nothing you can say will change his mind.

You don't think recruits stop by his office on the tour? Pretty naive.
So that means you have a problem with Desmond Howard on ESPN, given his rampant homerism and involvement in the football program?

Agree. If Fox sees enough of a chance to pull viewers over, they will probably tweak the format as needed.

How often do you think he's in his office just hanging out? This show is taping in LA and they're on the road for at least 4 weeks of the season. Do some research.

Former players meet with recruits all the time. I'm betting Desmond has multiple times.

Shocking, none of the OSU fans have a problem with this.
