I remember a ton of OSU fans missing him as DC during the latter Tressel years.
Always been a huge fan of Dantonio. He is underrated imo outside the B1G. If he ever left MSU, I wonder where he would go? I think Oklahoma would be a good fit for him.

He's too old to leave at this point but I would think South Carolina. It's his Alma mater.

There are a few guys at good football schools that I'd like to see at a traditional power because they've done so well with average recruiting it makes you think if they were at a legit top tier program they could really do well.

Most of the guys who have over achieved their programs historical success are too old to leave now lol.

I read it, it doesn't mean I agree with it. After Saban left Michigan St, it took 10 years for them to be good again.

While true...they also had exactly 1 10 win season in their entire history prior to Saban. It's a bit like saying Saban can't coach in the NFL because he went 15-17 in two seasons. The Tunas were 4-12 the year before he got there and 1-15 the year after he left.

Shit...he left the cupboard with enough for John L. Smith to be named B1G coach of the year at MSU the year after he left...think about that...he left the program in good enough shape for CooCoo for Coco Puffs to be named Coach of the Year.

John L Smith was two coaches after Saban.

Yup, my bad, I was confusing dates when he left LSU with MSU. Even worse though, Bobby Williams is coaching at an appropriate level now...as our special teams coach. Principal point still applies, you guys only had one 10 win season b4 Saban.

I thought Texas messed up last go round by not hiring him.
Well, Dantonio said that Michigan State is a destination program not a stepping stone and wasn't going to Texas. Now whether that was Dantonio saying no or both agreeing they weren't interested who knows. This wasn't a Les Miles to Michigan situation though.

And Saban didn't coach us to a ten win season either. He ran away in the middle of the night and bailed on our players before the bowl game.

Jimbo Fisher- ton of success but still his team has underperformed, how much is to blame of lack of funding for coaches?

It depends what you mean by "underperform". He's be the HC for seven seasons.

2010: 10-4 (Peach Bowl win vs S. Carolina)
2011: 9-4 (Citrus Bowl win vs Notre Dame)
2012: 10-2 (Orange Bowl win vs N. Illinois)
2013: BCS Championship (One of the best CFB seasons, ever)
2014: CFB Playoff appearance
2015: 10-3 (Peach Bowl Loss)
2016: ???

29-game win streak
Has never lost to Miami
Only won loss vs UF

Doesn't always work that way though. Stroking the egos of a bunch of 5 stars is not the same as turning 3 stars into 5 stars and vice versa. Doesn't mean a coach doesn't have the other skill set, just means they have to be adaptable, if you've got both,or in reality, multiple skill sets, so much the better.

Ok, make it 9 win seasons...it's not like you had a shit ton of those b4 either, does that take the sting away from the best coach in college football abandoning you.

He was an ego maniac, that had a napoleon complex and was demanding to be paid more than one of the top five basketball coach while he produced literally nothing but a third place finish in conference. He would have ran away eventually because he didn't want to be second fiddle to Izzo nor did he want to be the number two team in the state.

Saban might have had the program on the right track himself. But it was a dumpster fire for around 8 years after he left. Him leaving like that to LSU really hurt Michigan State more than help.

I don't know about "one of the best CFB seasons, ever"...unless your a cardiac specialist in Tallahassee, but your point stands. The only under-performing that Jimbo has done is against a ridiculous standard that non of us will likely see again in our lifetime.

Yeah pretty much no MSU fan I know acknowledges him as a net positive coach. There was quite a volatile relationship between him and the administration there.

If Colorado's head coach demanded a contract extension and to be paid like Urban Meyer, should they pay him that kind of money because he has produced in one season?

Yes to all his character flaws, but that has very little to do with his ability to coach or build a program. Had he stayed, I think he would have continued to be successful at MSU, just not as successful as he has been elsewhere.
