Dak Prescott expects to be paid "what's deserved" on his next deal.

Prescott's $725,848 salary last season ranked 55th among quarterbacks. Heading into the final year of his rookie deal, Dak is looking for a big payday on his next contract and isn't interested in taking a home-town discount like Tom Brady. "I am here where I am today because of the people always saying what I couldn’t or could do," said the former Rookie of the Year. "But I just keep going out there and just doing what I know I can do best." After guiding Dallas to playoff appearances in two of his first three seasons, Prescott could be in line for an extension this offseason.

for those of you thinking he isnt gonna be in the 30 mil range.
Dont sound good.

I'm good with him getting ''what he deserves''. According to what I read, there are 20 QB's that were basically full time starters in the league. The top 1-5 averaged like 33-30, 6-10 averaged 24-27, 11-15 averaged 21-24, 15-20 averaged 19-21. Dak is in the 11-20 range, so somewhere between 19-27, split the difference and give him $24 million. Fair to both sides. I will say this, and I may be in the minority...I would offer $21-24 this offseason, if he doesn't take it, I would let him play out the last year of his rookie contract, and then put a transition tag on him, and see if anyone would give two 1st's for him(they wouldn't) and if they did, let him walk. I love Dak, but if you give the kid $30+million dollars, I think it's gonna be a disaster.

I dont want to pay him 30+ either, but QB contracts only go up. Minus the handful. They are all overpaid.
Its a pipe dream to think we are gonna get him in the low 20's

Derek Carr got 5 yr 125. Dak will easily go north of that.
His agent will point out. 2 of his 3 years were Division titles.

Smart people would take Dak over Cousins. he got 28+ mil a year. Any agent worth his weight will point that out as well.

I don't see any way he gets 30 mil if we extend him this offseason. He could want it but shame on us if we give it to him. I love Dak's character and guts and he has the trait I want most in my QB: he does what it takes to score points when it matters most. He doesn't choke when the pressure is on and even if not pretty he comes through more often than not and our record in his short time here shows that. But, you can't over pay him by that much. He just isn't worth $30M as we sit here today. I get what QBs are making and I don't care if SF paid an asinine amount to Jimmy G. I know we will need to pay close to that $30M amount, but "what he deserves" is below that. Caveat of course being the guaranteed and "likely to get" money. I'm fine with a couple of $30-35M years thrown onto the back of the contract to make it look like more.

This team is due for a major overhaul after this season if it doesn't go well. Garrett and Moore are in do or die years. Let Dak ride it out and if it turns out Linehan was holding him back and he has more to give and it shows this year and he takes it to the next level, then I give him the $30M without a doubt but he isn't there yet. If he doesn't, no team is going to steal him from us in FA for that amount. So I feel no pressure to overpay him. It's a roll the dice year for a lot of Cowboys in 2019. Make Dak one of them. The better he plays the more he makes. Hopefully he plays well enough to back up the brinks truck:2cents:

Again. My thought is I dont want to pay him 30 mil either.
As far as how much early on to late, I'll leave to you guru's
I am merely speaking on avg. per year.
No way it is low 20's Whether we like it or not.
Cousins is avg. 28 mil. a year.
Which tells me even though they (whoever they are) are saying Dak is worth 25.2
That number will raise(closer to 30) Not a fan, but being above Cousins is completely plausible.

Therein lies my point though. The QB's you listed...Cousins went to the most talented team in the NFL...they signed him for 28 and missed the playoffs. Oakland gave Carr the money...and then traded away Mack, who clearly deserved the money they would have paid him if they hadn't overpaid Carr. Aaron Rodgers didn't make the playoffs...after cutting his favorite WR Jordy Nelson(laughable that he would complain). Matt Ryan...Zip.
I am a big fan of Dak, but I am also realistic. Dak missed the playoffs the one year he didn't have Zeke and was 3-5 until the Cooper trade....meaning, he can win games, when we have a full deck. I think every other team sees this, and if the Cowboys let him play out his rookie deal this year and then transitioned him, I don't think there is one team in the NFL that would give the Cowboys two #1's and then give Dak more than $25 million. If Dak refused to sign for $24 million a year, I would sign a vet FA(you could spend $18-20 million on a backup QB for a two year deal that you could get out of after year one) and also draft a QB in round 2 or 3. If Dak sign's the following year, great. If not, roll on.
Every single team the Cowboys play, when interviewed after the game, they all say the same thing..our game plan was to stop Zeke and the run game. I have never even once heard someone say their focus was to take the ball out of Dak's hands. We may give him the $30, but I would let him walk before I did. Don't bid against yourself

While Dak said he want's to be paid accordingly he also said he knows the team needs to pay others too. I don't think Dak will try to set the QB salary record, he just won't take a low ball Tom Brady contract.

That has to be the top end, very top. If the Cowboys offer Dak 6 years and $150 million and he says no, they should call Foles and offer 3 years and $60 million...

No way is he worth 30 mill a year. He is in the same boat as Tank make him earn it I let him show what he is worth then sign him or let him go.

100%

You just know that Dak is not going to be a prick about.

As much as some of these writers are trying to stir up bullshit ..it won't happen.

If Dallas offers a fair contract in his mind, I think he signs. Problem is I dont know what he thinks is fair.

What can make this go south in a hurry is Dallas offering a laughable contract.

If I were a mind reader I'd sell my services to the Cowboys during contract negotiations. I'd read the players minds at their lowest possibility and start just under that number.

Oh hell, I'd sell my services to all teams, but I'd start other teams higher than the lowest agreeable amount.

Right, an initial offer that shows Dak some respect is huge to get things off on the right foot.

But I'm just curious ..do teams just come up with a blind offer?

I'm thinking it helps both sides if the agents floats a number to a team before the teams first offer.
Not sure really.

I have to think teams try to go in informed, but unless they are given inside info, it's just a guess.

Look how the Cousins/Redskins ordeal went down.

Dallas has always been a team willing to use most of it's cap space. If all upcoming free agents take this into account Dallas will get everyone of their own signed, and the players will get fair contracts. If one FA insists on breaking the bank it could effect other contracts, could mean we lose a player we want.

Dak not worth 30 million per. He deserves and will get paid, but 30 million per will not be good for our ability to keep a playoff roster. As we know starting QBs will get paid and what we as fans want we dont get

I would love that.

I read a site saying he is worth about 25.2 mil a year. I can handle that as well. Problem was other players listed I think they were wrong about. So not sure how much stock to put into that site.
