but when the rubber hits the road- and if Boston trades for him and he sees Kyrie Irving next to him with a bunch of other solid players- and he has to turn down his Bird Rights contract ot take millions upon millions less- it becomes a much different conversation.

If I am Boston i would not be scared off one iota.

it seems the going price for a pretty good rental is 2 2nd rounders. they kind of operate as grease on trades too- to kind of even things up

they of course are not anything close to major assets thats for sure- and the probability of getting a real player is low- but if you take enough swings you are gonna get a hit at some point

The Pels are playing a bit of a dangerous game. They are gambling that Rich Paul can't drive down the offers from other teams.

If they win, then good for them.

But if they don't, they'll end up getting less than the Lakers are offering right now.

I'm not so sure that getting less from another team (if it were to happen) is so bad considering it would be better than trading to the Lakers whom are in their same conference.

I think with Toronto's success, if they make it to the ECF, Kawhi's staying in Maple syrup land.

That's why the Lakers can't just think that guys are just going to come to them once free agency rolls around. Having said that, Magic shouldn't have let it leak that trades were going on between the Pelicans and the Lakers. You can include AD's camp as well making it public with Rich Paul. Because now other teams are in the mix, and the Lakers seem to have a dumpster fire raging on given that most of the team knows they're not in the long term plans anymore.
