that is pretty simple logic IMO... the thing about DHs is that they don't have a position... They are just hitters... RP is a position and a skill...

point is, nobody cares whether someone is one of the best DHs of all time... they have to be one of the best HITTERS of all time...

RP, is a whole position to itself, you can be one of the best RP of all time...

With that said, I don't NOT have edgar on my list because he is a DH, I don't have him on my list because I don't think he cracks it as an offensive bat... Especially when the position is a NEGATIVE...
100 percent wrong. DH is a position and has been in the MLB for almost 50 years, while a relief pitcher is a role, not a position. The position is pitcher and relievers should have to have HOF value relative to their position to warrant induction.

JAWS and the 2019 Hall of Fame Ballot: One-and-Dones, Part 1 | FanGraphs Baseball

I love that Jaffe is covering these guys, even if they aren't remotely close to being HOFers. Their careers are still worth remembering.

It's pretty baffling to think Hafner never made it to the ASG, he was an absolute monster in 2004-06 (.308/.419/.611, 170 OPS+). It's a shame he fell off after that.

Loved Bay too, he was awesome in his short stint in Boston (.274/.380/.534, 45 home runs, 7.2 WAR in 200 games). I was pretty bummed to see him fall off in NY.

Looks like Oswalt will fall off the ballot. Not surprising and I don't think he was a HOFer, but I don't think he was that far off. The career numbers were great and he had a really good peak, just not enough innings.

He’s the 2000s version of Jimmy Key.

Voters should go ahead, and elect Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire and Roger Clemens to the Hall of Fame. Place an asterisk (* ), next to their name with a annotation of possibly link to steroid era. Those players have the stats, so put them in. There could be an agreement of no ceremony, just their information, etc in the Hall of Fame.

Berkman only got 2 votes through 155 ballots. He's probably not a Hall of Famer and wouldn't have been on my ballot this year. Still he had a good career, expected him to get more support.

It’s the by product of the back log. If the 6-8 guys who should be statisically no doubters would have been voted in 5 years ago Berkman at least survives this ballot.

Thanks for posting the above, I think the 4 guys above 75% right now get in. Guys like Clemens and Bonds get in by 2021 IMO.

I think Bonds and Clemens get in next year. Schilling and Walker too.

I will never understand why Mussina is a HOFer, and why he is so ahead of Schilling... It makes ZERO sense to me...

and what is weirder, I am a yankee fan, and loved Mussina... Don't understand why I am such a Hater towards his case....
I don’t want to turn this political, but I am certain that Schilling’s political leanings have cost him more than a few votes. Same for Kent.

As for why Mussina gets in, I can’t really make that argument. Neither he nor Schilling are on my ballot.

schilling is on mine... He has the regular season similar to Mussina, with better peaks... BUT his playoff numbers are arguably the best ever...

He’s Tom Glavine without the mediocre final seasons so he could get 300 wins and a little bit of bad luck.

3500 innings and a 120+ ERA+ is a pretty exclusive club; it contains HOF’ers, Roger Clemens, and Mike Mussina. What I don’t get is why there was such a push for Jack Morris during his final years on the ballot when Mussina has him beat across the board...new stats, old stats you name it.

problem with ERA+ and all other sabermetric stats is that they are not production stats... they are formulaic stats... they are really irrelevant stats for career...

especially since they are calculated with certain weights being significantly more...
