All they have been through?

He died in a self-caused accident. Not to diminish the guy or say it was easy, but that doesn’t qualify as an “all they have been through” type of experience, IMHO.

I hadn’t heard he was already on record with his desire to go in as a Jay. I would be interested to hear the Hall’s explanation for going against those wishes.

I obviously don't know or have any evidence that this is what happened but it is possible that the Phillies org/ownership was significantly "better" to the family in the aftermath. Like I said, I have zero evidence that this is what happened and I don't even think that I care what happened. I'm just saying that's one hypothetical scenario that would seemingly be "OK", since Roy obviously made his statement years ago before any of this had happened.

It is a travesty that Lenny Harris is not in the Hall. He was the best pinch hitter in the history of the game.

Yeah, there's an intelligent argument.

Who’s arguing?

Sorry, advocate for something? Because those 883 PAs are such a strong base for a HoF bid. I mean, I'd say McCovey was a better pinch hitter anyway - and he's in the hall....

So you are saying that if someone only does one aspect of the game, he shouldn’t be in the Hall?

That’s an interesting take.

Why would I say that? Then there'd be almost no pitchers in the hall of fame.....

So you're saying a .654 OPS is worthy of the HoF (96+)?

Not sure who you are referring to...

Harris' OPS and OPS+ when pinch hitting.....you know, the guy you are saying should be in the hall of fame. The guy who put up Bill Mazeroski numbers without the defense.

But as a LF he has a career OPS+ of 125.

See? Stud LF AND the most decorated PHer of all time.

First ballot guy if I ever saw one.

He also had a 124 OPS when hitting in the #6 slot.

How can anyone argue against him?

so, you're changing your claim then? No longer adding him as a pinch hitter - now we're looking for LF? Well, since he's not even close to qualifying as a LFer, since even that amazing OPS+ is, he's still way down the list of LFers, I'm sure even you will have to admit that he's not gonna sniff the ballot soon. I'm sure you're impressed by his overall 80 OPS+, but he's not mediocre - he's significantly below average. But, keep pounding that pavement for less than 400 PAs. You could get behind the Albert Belle for HoF, if you are dying to see a LF from that era get in.
