As of this writing, its 627 and no mention of them having been fired - the organization is already taking too long to make the move.
I think that the roster isn't as bad as some may say lots of injuries didn't help. The coaches also didn't coach to the players strengths that's why they have to go. I agree they need to fix both lines. Swanson was actually ok.I think it's time to move on from Tannehill. He can look so bad on even the most slowly-developing pass rush.
Draft early in the D-Line. Try to come away with a Top 5 DE and DT prospect. New D-coordinator. New (stop gap?) QB. Upgrade Jesse Davis, re-sign James. Keep or flip R. Jones. Have better luck with injuries. We'll be OK. I still like a lot of players on our roster.
Yeah if they draft a QB it would most likely be a project but I'd take that over Ossweiler and Fales who have no hope. It would give the guy one year to groom and eventually beat out Tanny because he earned it. Who knows maybe the stars align and Tanny with a better oline impresses. I don't think anything happens if Gase doesn't get turfed or he's forced to give up the play calling. Something has to happen there...There really arent too many options out there that will upgrade Tannehill, especially when you have to eat $13M regardless. Too poor of a QB draft to go that route this year, next year should be stacked though. The only issue is the fact that you probably arent drafting top 10 if Tannehill starts every game next year.
New DC and an OC absolutely needs to happen though.
Here is the issue with drafting a QB the anti-Tannehill crowd who wants him replaced at all cost doesn't seem to realize - its not a strong QB class - its not to say we cant find one in this draft - but this fan base doesn't seem satisfied with a QB that might take time to help turn the orgnization around - it seems all this fan base wants is the guy that is going to flip the switch the moment he signs with the team.
I agree with most of this but unless they release Alonso they have three capable LB's and play nickel a lot so only need two real good ones. I like Baker he's improving every game.
There are still some bowl games to watch to see what the talent out there is - and all these other pre-draft all star games for guys to emerge - as well as pro-days and the combine. But as of now there is no sure thing.
I would go as far as to say that there is no clear option in FA, either -- because we don't know all that is going to be available + we don't know what our coaching staff and front office will look like when its time to make these decisions.
I think the most pressing issues facing this team are coaching - is Gase going to return? If so, is he going to be willing to give up play calling duties to someone who can better put Tannehill and the offense in position to be successful? Will he look for another OC he is more willing to differ to? Like I said earlier, he has to do this in order to bee allowed to return - otherwise he should be fired on the spot.
Next, Matt Burke needs to be gone -- he shouldve been fired the moment the game ended today - he's already been allowed to stay too long. Scheme isn't as important as finding a coach capable of using the pieces available in the right manner - which Burke failed at on a weekly basis since he got here.
Positionally speaking, first and foremost, I think the team needs to improve their health - people have been talking about the issues with the offensive line for years as if there are no real answers already on the team - THERE ARE -- they just need to get healthy. My point is, I think is as unimportant to spend our top draft choice on an OL as it would be to do so on a QB.
I think LB is the biggest position of need - McMillian and Baker look like quality young guys we can build upon at the position -- but if the team can find a true difference-maker/play-maker at the position, they should certainly go for it -- because this is a position, I would argue - that has plagued the Fins as some suggest regarding the QB position.
As far as Charles Harris, I think he is just one of the many young talents this fan base has decided to target and deem a bust -- Like I said earlier, it seems this fan base wants immediate results or they deem a guy a bust for life.
He is still young and this was only his second season - I will not judge the guy one way or another just yet -- I think people need to start understanding that we cant label every fucking guy one way or another. At some point we have to let guys do their job and develop guys in the time period necessary to do so.
Not every move is going to provide you with a hall-of-famer/all-pro immediately or otherwise. My point here is, contrary to popular believe of our too often angry fan base -- there ARE pieces to work with on this team - we just need the right guys to steer them in that direction.
This is why I think free agency is the better route to plug most of our holes - no need to continue to try to hit Home Runs in the draft only to be disappointed week 1 of rookie-mini-camp as is often the case for this fan base.
My biggest point is - this team isn't as far away from turning it around as some people make it seem - this team is just a few tweaks away from really getting it going.
First order of business will be determining which veterans return and at what price -- from there it will be much easier to attack the draft and the young player development process.
Gase out. All I know is Ross better have a plan. Not a fan of changing just for the sake of change, and it better not be Rex Ryan
If that’s the case then it is inexcusable why Tannenbaum still has a job. This isn’t a change for the sake of change — the guy was a failure at his job on a weekly basis on and off the field — he deserved to be fired . He was kept for long enough .
