If you are truly the best team in col

It's not like I came up with this idea out of thin air. Plenty of experts who know way more about football than you or me have suggested expanding the playoff to include more teams.

If the 4 team playoff was perfect, there wouldn't be speculation every year.

Those “experts” job is to talk and stir shit up. Obviously you didn’t come up with this idea, I’ve just yet to see a good reason for it. The reasons you’re giving are among the worst.

I feel like we need to create a super thread when this comes up every 3-5 weeks and just keep merging them so we stop making the same arguments over and over again.

We get it, you don’t follow college football, you don’t need to beat us over the head about it.

If I don't follow college football as much as you do it's probably because I know regardless of what happens, Alabama is going to be in the playoff even if they don't win their division let alone their conference.

But that's just your opinion. Others think it's a good idea. Just because you don't like the idea doesn't make you an expert.

Or you could have simply said No like two or three others did.

How many times has that happened? Include your list of the years the SEC has regularly got two teams in while you’re at it.

I did. I literally was the first response to this “original” idea.

What I am saying is that Auburn and LSU are typically considered some of the better school in the SEC and yet they are sometimes falling in and out of the top 25. Same with Florida. Georgia IMHO has been the solid number 2 in SEC for years.

But have they been a "solid number 2 in the SEC for years"?? If you were to flip LSU or Auburn into the East and Georgia into the West, would they still be considered the #2 team in the conference? Alabama was clearly the best team in the SEC last year, but they didn't even win the conference.

I would argue that Georgia hasn't been a "solid number 2" team in the SEC for years. No offense to Georgia, I think they have been a VERY good SEC team and likely a #2 team in the conference some seasons. I believe they are very fortunate to be playing in the SEC East, with Florida and Tennessee having an unprecedented bad runs (at least unprecedented over the past 30 years).

Now Georgia may prove to be the #2 team for years to come, but looking backwards, I don't think they would be considered the #2 team in the SEC conference very many times over the past 5-6 seasons. Just my two cents.

I didn’t claim it does, but it’s not my opinion that what you’re suggesting would change college football and make it something it’s never been, nor pretended to be. That is a fact.

Funny thing: The SEC has had 5 teams win national titles since the BCS started: Tennessee, LSU, Florida, Auburn and Alabama.

Georgia isn't among them. But I think they came real close in 2012(would have gone on to play Notre Dame) and last year, but lost to Alabama on the last play of the game both times. Came up like 2 yards short of a TD in 2012 and of course last year.

What did I say that even hints that’s my stance?
Well the only 2 teams to get in without winning their league are Bama and OSU so that would point towards those types of teams getting preference but you said there was nothing to support that "goven similar resumes" so I naturally assumed you didn't figure league titles as an integral part of a resume.

So far what we know for certain is that in order to make the playoff you need yo be be a P5 team with 0 or 1 loss. Those 2 things don't guarantee you a spot but not having both of them ( so far ) has proven to be a disqualifier. This means there's little point in scheduling a quality OOC game imo

Just about every year there has been controversy. We wouldn't be having this discussion if something unfair didn't happen every year. Last year Alabama got in and they didn't even win their own division. They didn't even play in a conference championship.

How does a team win the national championship when they didn't even win their own conference?

How many national championships would they have won if they were one of the P5 conferences not represented in the playoff?

OSU got in in 2016 because of a quality OOC game.

They are a huge part. But not because they are "conference titles", but because of what it usually means when you accomplish that.

Which is why it's no coincidence that in the 4 years of the playoffs only 2 teams have been teams that didn't win their conference.

So it's a huge deal, it just doesn't trump everything else as some seem to think.
Fair. The question left is does this only apply to blue bloods or will any one loss team with a decent resume but no league title get the same treatment

Not sure what you don’t get. College football has had playoffs for years. It’s been decades since the champ was rewarded for the regular season. The “season matters” thing has always been complete BS

Yeah I don't think this guy actually watches college football.

Our OOC schedule this year and next year is definitely subpar, but it's not the norm.

And I love playing the neutral site games and think most people would. It sucks that people hate them for whatever reason, I think it would be awesome if NFL stadiums across the country started doing it. Especially since the NFL seems to start about a week after college. Just have a bunch of top25 type teams signup for neutral sites and dish them out like bowl games in the preseason for good match ups. That would be awesome.

Plus you get paid every year. That's the biggest thing for Alabama I think. As far as finances go, it's like getting an extra home game because they pay out like home games.
neutral site is boring if it's the same 3 cities or so

i don't care about traveling to exotic Texas or Atlanta again for a football game

i'd rather see the other team's campus and town and whatnot

(our game in Lambeau was a great neutral site though!)
