I know there isn't much grounds for this right now but think of it this way.

1. The Pac12 is starting to act like they are not interested in OU. There is too much of a cultural gap and OU would be the butt of jokes for their "academic" standards. Travel would be expensive.

2. Texas cannot survive without jumping ship. For the issues listed above with OU, Texas is not a fit in the Pac12. I know Texas is a good academic school but it is about "perception." Travel costs to West Coast would be high, especially for other sports. Most importantly, Texas is not a cultural fit with either the Pac12 or B1G.

3. ESPN. ESPN is slowly pushing this idea of a SUPER Conference with the Big 6 SEC schools (Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Tennessee) plus a rising Arkansas paired with Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and a rising Oklahoma State. If ESPN can bring this together and get the contract, they would make a fortune. This league would dominate television and college football. It is unsure if the SEC would buy into this idea but ESPN would be able to push their own television deal plus the added revenue for every school.

4. Although not entirely a cultural fit, the SEC is the closest cultural fit to Texas and Oklahoma. Both have that blue collar work ethic mentality. Both regions cover the Biblebelt. Both regions are football first. Both regions have the same cuisine, same mannerism, same expressions, etc. Although Oklahoma and Texas have this western feel to them, they also very much have a Southern feel. Geographically, the SEC would dominate the coastline of one major sea, the Gulf of Mexico. Texas is the last bastion on the Gulf to not be added to the mix. All the major gulf football schools outside of Florida State would not reside in the SEC.

The fact is, the ACC, B1G, and Pac12 are too far away geographically and cultural to fit in with these schools. OU may want to go West but the Pac12 will have little incentive to add OU because OU doesn't bring enough $$$ without Texas.

This Conference would SUCK. Not because they would be bad on the field but they would become too dominate. Too many good teams in one league is a bad thing. They would eliminate each other or as SEC fans put it, "beat each other up." Despite this aspect it may not be far fetched.

I'm going to say something that might make me sick......but don't overlook the ACC

Texas isn't ever going to the SEC, so you can end that pipe dream now.

Texas is not happy with the PAC 12 right now, because of divisional lineups - they want to be playing in LA every year, not the old Big 12 plus the Arizona schools. They also don't want to part with or alter the LHN, which is a problem.

The ACC may allow them to keep the LHN, and travel is cheaper and easier.

And the concept of Texas in the ACC just made the throw up a little....

LOL...you spent a lot of time writing up garbage, seems like most of it is based on feelings. LMAO you even have a reference to a western feel, and cuisine.

There is no negative perception of academics at Texas from people in either the Pac-12 or the Big Ten. One of the benefits of having those higher educational standards is that fans of these conferences (well, fans of Big Ten schools and the half of Pac-12 schools that are great universities) are actually informed.

Texas and Oklahoma aren't really comparable as academic institutions.

I'd also really love to be able to travel to Austin for games. I'm actually going to Texas-Texas Tech in November (my gf is from Texas), and Austin is basically a bigger but not quite as idyllic (as in, perfect college town) version of Madison.

Texas and Oklahoma are Tier 2 universities. Sad to say they are the only Tier 2 universities in the Big 12. Are they are Stanford, Cal or UCLA...No. But they aren't a Arizona, ASU, Washinton State nor Utah as well in regards to academics. OU is actually along the lines of Oregon or Colorado in reference to academics.

I'm not for expansion, but I would LMAO at A&M if those 3 schools followed them to the SEC.

From what I've read....Tech wouldn't be in the package.

It would be Texas, Kansas, Mizzou, possibly Baylor. They're trying to get OU to think about it as well.

The reason the ACC is a player is because ESPN owns their network rights. The ACC commish used to be Mack Brown's AD at Carolina, and the academic rankings would be great, as well as all other sports. ACC basketball, both mens and womens, are excellent, and football, assuming they keep the teams they have, would also do well.

It's an intriguing option......but I'd still hate to see it. Who wants to go to boston every other year? Wake Forest? Duke?

That's great to hear. Baylor would be going so those 100 year historic Texas football rivalries would stay intact.

I agree with your assessment of Oklahoma. Nebraska is right there as well.

But Texas is more like an Illinois or Penn State. That's a step below the UC schools, Virginia, Michigan, etc. among state schools, but a step above Oregon, Colorado, Nebraska or Oklahoma.

US News rankings for 2012 just came out actually:

I'm interested to see if Texas enjoys an independent status as much Notre Dame does. So I say no to Texas just for experimental purposes.

This coming from a Canes fan is HILARIOUS

Whats really HILARIOUS is that the last time I remember the Canes playing Texas was in the Cotton Bowl.

The Canes beat the absolute dog shit out of you guys 46-3.

So ya, we danced, you cried and the next year the NCAA came out with new rules on celebrating. Im guessing all that crying you did over the off season to the NCAA changed the rules a bit.
