1. Its not the massive cap savings you and many others predicted.

2. As good or better at QB remains to be seen.

As i expected, they are attempting to give Smith WRs as apposed to projects. So the team SHOULD be better if as you state the QB is better and they are putting better talent around him.

Its going to be interesting to see if Smith gets eviscerated in the game threads.

If we add a good LG and get another RB then this offense will be complete. The big key here is if Reed can stay healthy. Reed and Davis as a one two punch will be huge for Smith. Like I said a million times getting Smith for a QB for the SITUATION that we were in was a huge win for this team. We added a deep threat in Richardson and with Reed coming back that would be huge.

LG and RB are the only two holes on this offense right now. Do you agree?

Nope.. because you are ignoring Depth. Doctson isnt a finished product and is still a bit of a project. Moses is injured(shocker). So while having projected starters is nice, a little quality depth is needed.

depth? Doctson should take a huge step this year. Moses will be fine for the season. Nske has been brought back at OT/OG. So yes the holes are RB and LG right now.

Really.... was it not YOU who defended him ad nauseum last year for every bad play stating in fact.... he was playing hurt?? If he was playing hurt, that would mean he was in fact NOT healthy.

The more I watch things unfold today. The less sense it makes to me why Kirk is getting a fully guaranteed contract. Particularly from a team as seemingly loaded as the Vikings..

1. You know exactly how much he is going to cost over the next three years, no wish wash waffle
2. The market is what it is, and the Vikings apparently value what he brings to the table.
3. It basically ensures he isnt going to make those other FA visits possibly driving his cost up.
4. In a year, his contract number will be eclipsed by Rogers and possibly others.
5. Apparently this is his agent

That's still a shitload of money allocated to one player and in a very short span of time.

Yea, but looking at their cap situation over the time span, it leaves hem about $18M this year, $45M next year, and $87M in the last year of his deal.

Three year window, Super Bowl or Bust. And you can damn sure bet they wont be handing him Fat Rob, Pryor and a shit show on defense to work with.

If this pace of qb contracts continue, then teams will be better off just drafting a rookie every 4-5 years and building the rest of the team

I am not surprised. Fully guaranteeing three years is not that big of a deal for the position & talent. He was going to get that type of money anyways. Whether is was fully guaranteed or not, because of the cap hit on a longer term deal, he would have been on the roster in year three anyways.

Comparing the guaranteed money to Alex Smith's, make's no sense at this point until both contracts are out in the open. But just for clarification, guaranteed money does not equal cap hit.

You can't make the claim that you are saving money with what little is known of the specifics of the contracts. Just because the guarantee is lower, doesn't mean you are saving money due to the fact that even modest guarantees in outlying years can act as defacto full guarantees when cap hits are taken into consideration.

Yes Smith is going to cost less, but an average of a few million a season isn't much in the bigger picture.

Good point. As they have a larger surplus in year three of the deal, they could backload it to leave more room to add talent in years one and two.

I wouldnt, but they might.

While looking at big contracts like these, it's always helpful to consider that the salary cap is increasing by $7-8m or more every season.

My take on this is that if Cousins plays like he has been playing or better, they will extend him after the 2019 season. Likely fully converting the "guaranteed" 2020 money into a bonus, lowering his cap number that season while adding 3+ seasons at the going rate for a QB.

so the Skins saved 17mg. Right?

Did you graduate sixth grade because your math skills suck.

it is less. that is the whole point. We are just as good or even better at the QB position.

Everybody knew it was going to be less.

Let us go by your idea we are equal at QB. Let’s put an actual value on the third round pick we gave away and call it two million per season. Now let’s say we put a value on Fuller...i would say it is low balling significantly his value saying 8 million per season.

Now the question...was Alex Smith actually cheaper?

Why? The cost goes up every year for QBs and the new top shelf contracts usually run about 15% of the cap. The difference is, if you are smart, you sign your own so you know what you have. If you draft a rookie, you are more likely to get Jamarcus Russell and have to trade up to get him, than you are to draft Peyton Manning.
