Oakland could use that money to go after a younger stallion like Bell, but he'll have no shortage of suitors should he reach the open market. It's going to be tough for the Steelers to use the franchise tag on Bell again this year since they have very little cap room at the moment. If the old team declines to match the offer, it gets two first-round picks from the other team as compensation. This is the more commonly used franchise tag.

— By applying the transition tag, a team offers the player a salary that is the average of the top 10 salaries at his position. That player can negotiate with other teams. The player’s original team has the right of first refusal to match any offer given to a transition-tagged player by another team. Steelers have already said they are not gonna talk about a long term deal till after he's tagged. To me, that means they 100% intend to tag him. I can't see them letting him just walk. I don't know there cap situation too well other than they don't have a ton of room but I don't see them trading him. I think he will sign it at the end of camp like he did this past year. He's just too integral to their offense to let him walk/play anywhere else.

Unless Bell changes his salary demands...idk if OAK can pay this guy.

Teams can always create more space by cutting players but the reports I'm looking at...OAK has a projected $17 to $21 mil to work with as of now.

Bell has said he wants $15 mil per, need to sign a draft class...idk about that happening in OAK.

Tampa, CLE, SF, IND, DET...maybe the Jets have the cap space and the need.

We shall see.

I usually wouldnt say a team would miss a back all that much in this passing league, but Bell is a unicorn, this would be a big blow to the Steelers

At 15M he’s really not super valuable as a RB anymore. A rookie from the next class will do 80% of what Bell does for about 14M less a year

RB is becoming a fungible position - not sure any RB is worth $15M a year, not even Jim Brown in this prime.
