Do you not like Edwards? or do you think it's too much?

First, he's one of the hardest athletes to listen and to root for in sports in my opinion. Since college, his maturity level, or flat out immaturity, has been a concern. He's not going to be everyone's cup of tea if you ask me.

Secondly, I've never been as sold on him as a receiver as many have. However, from a physical standpoint he does seem to fit what all the Bay Area reporters said the 49ers have been looking for. I'll give him that much.

Hopefully Vernon can whip him into shape. :boink:

Pozz and Clyde...
Just out of curiosity, do you guys dislike the move because of Braylon's off-the-field behavior or his performance on the field?

I just don't like him. I don't like his personality and I don't like the way he plays football. I don't think he'll offer much more than what Crabtree or Morgan will offer.

Quite frankly, I don't think I like a single move that Baalke has made in this FA.Thankfully it's a 1-yr deal.

So much for no FA activity. I don't love Edwards. Lots of off-field and some on-field drama with him. But there's no denying his physical talent, and he should be a pretty good fit in the system we're looking to run. Hopefully he gets his act together.

So how many former top-10 picks can we accrue here? We've got to be near the top of the league in that category. If only they didn't trade Carr....

2005(1): Alex Smith
2005(3): Braylon Edwards
2006(6): Vernon Davis
2011(7): Aldon Smith
2005(9): Carlos Rogers
2007(9): Ted Ginn Jr.
2009(10): Michael Crabtree

That's fully 1/8 of our active roster drafted in the first ten picks. Crazy.

You can add Donte Whitner to that list. He was picked #8 overall I believe

Fair enough. I agree with you on both points (why I wouldn't like a multi-year deal), but the bold above is exactly why I like the signing. The 49ers have been lacking a #1 for so long, and he has the ability to be that guy. For at least one year, we can see what it's like with a #1. Perhaps next offseason bring in a #1 for the long-term.

I like it on a one year deal, just hoping that goodell doesnt suspend him any game right off the bat. I can see why some do not like him for his off field issues, which was why i was hesitant on wanting him as well. I think his on the frield presence will make defenses more honest. Overall i like it, please dont suspend him lol.

I don't mind this signing because:

1. It should light a fire under Crabtree and;
2. It's only a one year deal at a reasonable salary

If we gave him a multi-year deal I would have been pissed.

Also, I really think our offense is finally stable enough to handle a knucklehead like him in the lockerroom now that Vernon Davis has matured. Gore should help keep him in his place too.

It will be almost bizarre to me to see Alex Smith throwing to him!

That is crazy! Over a 1/3 of our expected starters are top 10 - Now if they all just play like it!

Haha, I completely agree! "With the 1st pick of the 2005 NFL draft the San Francisco 49ers select Alex Smith & Braylon Edwards!"

Although his legal trouble and character give me pause. I find myself strangely pumped that we got what in my opinion is a true #1 reciever finally.

49ers Blog and Q&A: Big catch: 49ers land WR Edwards with one-year deal

The receiver has had a number of run-ins with the law both in Ohio and New York, including an assault charge in Cleveland and a DUI incident in New York. Edwards was recently linked to a fight in a Michigan bar that left two bouncers with stab wounds. On Thursday, McConnell Communications of Detroit issued this statement on Edwards' behalf:

"What occurred last weekend at South Bar was very unfortunate. However, Birmingham Police have indicated that Braylon was not involved. Mr. Edwards intends to cooperate fully in any inquiry, but because this is an ongoing legal investigation, we can not comment further."

He's closer than what we got, so I'll take it for a year.

It might be stretching it a tad, but hes the closest think weve had in a while.

That means absolutely nothing to me. It might be if we're a "WR that might be close a #1" away from winning the SB, but in our case it's completely irrelevant.

It is 3.5 for one year Clyde. I really don't see the negative here? It's not like he's going to take away time from somebody better.

Regardless of our superbowl chances. We needed another strong wide reciever and we got one. It is a small cause for excitement. Depressing to be pesamistic about everything.

I'm feeling homered out right now. All it will take is some losses to bring me back to reality but I'm feeling it man, we have a squad. If Aldon is all that we can have a really friggin' good D.
