You're not, I hadn't considered slugging in years.
I'm also well past being lucid.
If you haven't considered slugging in years, how did you come to the conclusion that OPS is a good measure for hitters?

Do you know what OPS stands for?

I have no idea what you're talking about anymore. Do the math? What math do you have to do? It's all done for you. Oh just so you know "SLG" means slugging percentage.

Just another way it's obtuse and contrived.
Total bases and OPS tell the story quite well.
It can't be obtuse and contrived.
Ops is obtuse. It's a simpleton's stat.
wOBA is acutely weighted.
You're just REAL DUMB on this issue.

It is a VERY faulty formula.
All you have to do is look at some of the players ahead of Mays, Aaron and other greats who were nowhere near their level.
"I don't like this stat because I don't like the results."
We are dealing with a genius here.
wOBA is an acutely weighted stat with tons of metrics and reasoning behind each input.
Ops is an obtuse sum of two obtuse stats.
Please, be smarter.

Here, dunces, AGAIN, is the best stat we have. Please, stop being obtuse with your ops talk. wOBA is much more acute than ops, and wRC+ is THE STAT that flows from wOBA.

"wRC+ brings all the virtues of wOBA plus two added benefits; park and league adjustments. A .400 wOBA at Coors is much less impressive than one at Petco, for example. Additionally, wOBA tracks with overall league offense, so you can’t use it to compare players of different eras very effectively. A .400 wOBA in 2000 is much less impressive than one in 2014, but a 140 wRC+ in 2000 means essentially the same thing in 2014."

That gets into the weeds far too much for my taste. I think adjusting for league averages works, some of the rest just muddies the water in my opinion.

I just checked career runs created, that nails it in my opinion. Not too much fiddling, but giving credit for the small things, staying in the lineup and longevity.
I particularly like Musial being at 4.

Musial is 3rd on the runs created list, not 4th. Tossing out Bonds it's Ruth, Musial and Aaron 1 thru 3, that rings true to me.

I know I'm a little late on this thread, but has anyone said Bonds? I don't see him on the list

I left Bonds off the list for obvious reasons.
You're welcome to dismiss his cheating if you want to though.

My bad. I was working on an offshore oil rig from 1987-2007 so I had no time to keep up with summer sports. I was just going off of Bonds' stats.

Not saying he's the best overall hitter in the last 30 years, but I'd have to say Vladimir Guerrero was my favorite to watch. Guy could launch a pitch in the dirt 400 feet.

Hands down the best Russian in the past 30 years. Big bat, big arm from right field.

That's a nice unbias way to do it. Find a stat that fits the results you want and then decide you like that stat.
